Can somebody tell me how the Tahoe Persuit Package is selling?
It's a rocket for an aerobrick... but is there any demand showing up?
Maybe the buying public actually has more buying sense than I give them credit for! If NONE of these fast SUV's are selling, maybe the OEM's will revert to styling them instead of powering them up. You know, like the gaudy spoiler and tape kits of the '70's... King Cobra and Z/28 cars?!?!
I'd go for looks over a fast engine anyday in my FAMILY TRUCKSTER.
But then again, if it's got Shelby's name on it and it can't pull itself out of a wet paper sack, I'll scream bloody murder. Maybe this whole truck is a BAD IDEA.
I don't see any apparent wisdom in Ford going back to a Shelby association. Not that his name doesn't carry some equity and not to say he doesn't have a pretty good rep when he works for a manufacturer. That's a given.
My quandry is why Ford would risk putting some doubts out there regarding the abilities and faith they have worked on for their in house SVT group by going for a once high profile "outsource". This kind of thing is almost always more beneficial for the outsourcer than the OEM.
Carroll did some big things in the '60's... his involvement post that was not that stellar in my opinion. Maybe it's a good thing, or maybe it's taking the retro thing a step or two too far.
It could be that Ford has every intent to redo a "real" Cobra. Perhaps "ol Shel has finally figured out that he will do better in endorsing a revival car by making damned sure he get's some larger sales SUV's and GT350 or 500 royalties in exchange for his smiles and endorsements... who knows. He's not been a happy camper when it comes to getting money he thinks is his due off of the Cobra replica phenomenon.
I doubt Ford would do this kind of deal to sell a few hotshoe SUV's... Porsche "owns" that market. With the negative press SUV's have gotten and the anti-SUV crowd out there already, I wouldn't give that group anything else to bark about.

I have heard that the Shelby models will fall somewhat below (performance-wise), their SVT counterparts.
We'll see. But I see the potential for confusion. Ford had better clearly deliniate these two sub-brands......or it could make the Z/28 v SS debates look like small potatoes.
From my "junk mail" folder this morning.

In general americans like the height of a suv, the ability to go offraod even though 80 percent dont, the ability to survive a crash better, even thought they roll over..and the fact that it has a huge motor, huge wheels and sounds like a truck...SUV'S are nothing more then "cool" mini vans. Think of escalade and navigator, they are just cool trucks turned minivan
But i wouldnt mind havein a fast SUV however, were suv's are truely needed and like in the northeast or Alaska where 4x4 in the winter is a must have then the 2wd Trail blazer aint gunna cut it and that might cause sales to fall

Since we are on the subject of Fords, this fall, and bean spilling:
*Ford will be introducing the new Lincoln Continental this winter at Detroit.
*Ford will also be displaying the replacement for the Lincoln Town Car, either in concept or production form
*Ford's 500 & Montego will be be in production this fall, shortly after the Mustang.
*Ford will also display the 2006 Crown Victoria this winter. It will have sheetmetal changes, a different interior & a different overall look, but it won't be extensive.
*Ford feels they have interior design down, and are at least 2 years ahead of their competitors, so now they are focusing (no pun intended) on exterior design. As PP said, they are planning EXTENSIVE external revisions on their entire SUV lineup, and the next F series trucks will be the last in line for the upgrade in styling.
They are also currently putting the finishing touches on the next Ford FiveHundred. It will be out in 2007 and will have a completely different look from the current one. Exact words: "Alot of people will be surprised. We're going in a different direction on the next one".
*The next Ford Lightning will be out after the 1st of the year, but before the spring. It will out accelerate & will be less expensive than the SRT-10 Ram. But it's not likely to be anywhere near the $32,000 steal the last one was.
*We'll finally see the actual Ford Futura now FourHundred (not a drawing) this winter at Detroit & LA along with the production Lincoln Zephyr.
*Whatever special edition Mustang is 1st up, we'll see it this winter as well.
*Finally, Ford will have at least 2 concept vehicles next auto show season so far. I have no idea what they are yet.
