Re: Shelby Cobra Mustang SVT
The hood just doesn't look right to me. It's too high and too rounded for my tastes. I hope GM take note of these design 'failings' and make sure Camaro doesn't become a 'me-too' car... not that there is any risk of that considering GM generally uses the low deck height of their OHV V8s to their advantage.

All the 05's I've seen, haven't had aftermarket exhaust systems installed yet so I'm not sure how they sound uncorked, although I do like the sound of this 05 http://www.cnlperformance.com/video/jb051199HQ.WMV

BTW, this is what Nate does for a living.....so he knows his stuff.

Like a bird in a gilded cage, sometimes I'm just "making time".
As for the discussion of the hood... the inverted ducts are 100% functional - NOT for looks. In fact, I imagine they have had great pains making the hoods look decent at all, after the functionality was ironed out.
The inverted scoops (if that's what we want to call them) actually use the vacuum of the high-velocity air going over the hood itself to pull air through the radiator and front grill to aid in cooling. They also help to keep the entire engine bay cooler as they creat turbulence at the cowl (for induction) at the rear of the hood helping to get the hot air over the cabin of the vehicle instead of going under the car.
On another note, there have been several instances of hood vibration and lift problems when these cars reach triple digits. It seems that the large curve of the hood is creating excessive surface vacuum (a.k.a. "lift") as the wing of an airplane does. This is NOT a good thing for the high-speed drivers. You will notice that the Steedas, Saleens, Roushes, and the like are all using deflectors or inductors to create turbulence on the hood surface, thereby reducing the lift. The inductors on the Cobra hood also remedy this problem, giving the SVT team a "two-bird, one-stone" solution.
So the GT500 hood may not be the easiest on the eyes, but it is quite effective for the car. I'm sure aftermarket ones will come fast, but personally I think I could learn to live with it... it's better than a slick one IMO.
I like the hood on the GT500. In fact most of the visual changes for the new Cobra are positive changes IMHO... I'm not keen on the convex wheels, but that's not a big thing. Hood, spoiler, sides are all good.
