And in fairness the new SRX is much cheaper ($7000?) and is going after a slightly different group than the old SRX. According to edmunds the new one starts at $33K and the old at $40K.

I wonder how much the name changes have hurt GM?
Ex.
Trailblazer in 08 sold 8,773
Traverse in 09 sold 6,863
difference (1,910)

Envoy 08 sold 3,394
Terrain 09 sold 1,334
difference (2,260)

Granted the Terrain has just come out....it will be interesting to watch.

The change from Trailblazer to Traverse seems to have had an effect. Is there a difference in size between these 2? Or was it basically a name change when the new vehicle came out?
I wouldn't be concerned about the name change. The traverse is up by 400 units year to date when compared to the trail blazer. This months lag was because of the large buying from last month w/ C4C.

The Traverse is about Tahoe sized and has three rows of seats. It's essentially a replacement for both the TrailBlazer and Uplander. The Traverse is a Lambda (equivalent of the GMC Acadia) and I'm not sure I'd directly compare with the Terrain, which is a Theta II (equivelant to Equinox).

I would bet they are in fact influencing the enthusiasts that I was referencing when saying "the enthusiasts are waiting." Go visit any Mustang board and there are a whole bunch of people delaying purchases until the 2011 Mustangs.

I don't doubt that Camaro is biting into Mustang sales, but I think pent up demand is also spiking Camaro sales. We'll have to wait a while until supply and demand catches up to get a more accurate picture of how the competition is going.

For sure. It seems NO ONE on the Mustang boards is buying a 2010 Mustang. I mean, knowing what they know about the 2011 and beyond - why would they?

Typical conversation in the "2010" sections seems to be:

Newbie: "Hi, I'm new, I just bought a 2010 Mustang"

Veteran: "Why did you do that? You couldn't wait for the 2011?"

Exactly!

BTW, on the Camaro numbers, Chevy is now expecting 2010 sales volume to reach 80,000. Based on that projection, 50% of 2010 Camaro volume has already been sold.

While those numbers sound very good... How long does the 2010 MY run for the Camaro?

So no one bought a 2009 Mustang because they were waiting for a 2010. now no one is buying a 2010 because they are waiting for a 2011. Maybe Ford should do nothing for 2012 and let the sales catch up. 2012 is already rumored to be the year they get Ecoboost V6 and a twin turbo 5.0L.

probably until late June 2010.

There were only 45,000 Mustangs built for the short 2009 model year before the switchover to 2010. Word is that most of the price increase for the new 3.7 and 5.0 is already built into the 2010s. So, you will likely be able to get a 2011 5.0 with 400 horses for the same price as a 2010 GT with 315.

The rumored turbo engines if they come to fruition are likely to be in GT350 and GT500 guise, not affordable mass market models.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that the Camaro is doing well and I hope that the ponies keep each other on their toes, but there's real reason to wait for the 2011 for Mustang intenders. Nobody held out for an LS1 Camaro over an LT1?

Interesting that the G6 is still in the top 20. I think we will continue to see "GM sales drop 45%" headlines for at least another year untill the sales from cancelled brands flush out and stop dragging it down. We have a full line GM dealer here, and all their new Pontiac's are already sold.

Total those together you get 1,706 sold Sept 08

Sept 09 they sold 1,665 combined....thats off 41 cars....but I would say the coupes have a higher avg selling price than the Tiburon (leads to higher profit)...not to mention the sharing of parts with the sedan. While it's not the success we would come to expect being GM fans I can see Hyundai calling it one...
They are still selling leftover Tiburons at deeply discounted prices, 8,579 to date this year. A lot of folks are buying them because of that fact. We bought a leftover '08 GT that stickered over 23K for 14K in May. The car is very tight, fun to drive and much better than I ever thought it would be.

For Year to Date through Sept 2008, the brands that are being cut were only about 20% of the total volume (if I can use a calculator correctly).

I am betting that the numbers will continue to look bad for GM till the gov't sells its shares and GM is a standalone company again.

Camaros are becoming a regular sight here, I see at least 2 per day.
One bright yellow one / black stripes, in particular, on St.Rt.35 here on a pedastool, gets a lot of head turning or "rubber-necking"! ..
Mustang guys here are already saying how the new Camaro's going to get smoked by the 2011 Mustang...kinda anoying

Ahhh, you gotta cut them a little slack. They were hearing about how the new Camaro was going to smoke the Mustang, since the concept car came out.

I just think it will all be great to watch.
