Seat Material Preference
My 02 Z28 has leather, but I'm not a big fan of it. I looked at the cloth interior for 02 but wasn't impressed with it. Now if I could have gotten cloth seats like I've got in my 94 Z28 I would have gone for the cloth interior. They are nice, although they could use a little more lateral support, comfortable and still look just as good as the day I picked up the car. Not bad for almost 10 years, 173K miles and especially since it was a daily driver.
Z284ever I agree that the leather in the T/As and Firebirds do look more high quality that the Camaro leather.

Leather looks great in a new car but once it gets those creases and lines in it, it just looks bad. I much prefer a premium fabric. I have cloth bucket seats in my '98 F150 STX and they still look new...the truck itself is a total piece of crap, but the seats look good!
I'd say leather, but they'd probably use leather that looks like crap after 10,000 miles, so I'd actually buy cloth - unless it was that crummy mouse hair cloth... then maybe I'd buy those cow pattern seat covers.
I have cloth in my Grand Am and leather in my Z28...give me CLOTH!!!!!!!!!!!
Who here has a 4th gen that doesn't have a scuffed leather seat bolster? Not many probably! I had both outer driver seat bolsters replaced when I got mine because the seatback one was cracked and the bottom one was scuffed all to hell. Never had that in either cloth third gen. I sure as hell would not pay extra for leather, ever...
Someone above mentioned the cloth they had in their '94 Z. My '89 RS had the "premium" cloth available that year that was a twin to the '94 cloth. Great stuff...with 96k on it, 13 years old it looked new inside. Show me leather that can do that
Meanwhile the perforations in the driver seat bottom leather on my Z have a few miniscule cracks in them (I mean, you have to get CLOSE to see them...but I know they're there
) that drive me nuts...so nuts I have a replacement seat bottom in the basement ready to go when they all split 5-7 years down the line

I have leather in my SS and it is the first time I have ever had it in a car. I like it but like nice cloth just as much, they both have their ups and downs. heated and cooled leather is cool, why can't they do that with cloth???
I got a chance to drive a 2002 M3 a while back, it had nicer leather than my SS

Somehow I think my car would look really stupid with cloth...
Well another big question mark is the quality of the leather. If it's a car with cheap leather (camaro, silverado, etc) then I'll take cloth. Not because cheap leather is less comfortable, but just because I like to look at a car and know that years down the road, if I treat it right, it will still look that good. If it's a nice durable type of leather, then I prefer leather for overall comfort and looks. But I do agree that if leather isn't properly cared for (cleaned AND conditioned properly on a regular basis) it will look much worse than cloth after a 5-10 years of use. Wheras cloth seats and be neglected by the previous owner for ten years and if you just own or borrow the right chemicals and equipment it can look 98% brand new after just a days worth of work (tears, permanent stains, and worn spots aside)
FWIW interestingly enough there seems to be a tradeoff with leather between comfort and durability. If it's nice enough leather than you can usually combine the two. But still it seems to be one trait dominates, or the other. For example, my seats are 10x more comfortable than my g/f's 99 Accord. Yet on her Accord they've made the leather very 'tight' around the seat so it still doesn't have a single crease or stretch in it. In my car however the front driver's seat has obviously been used... several areas where the leather is starting to take its natural form. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't look bad, but just more used looking than her Accord. Then again I bought my car at 30k miles and the seats already looked like that so maybe they weren't taken care of. The passenger seat looks much better and the back seats look mint. But just looking at the two cars it seems as though hers will stay newer looking for longer while mine is more comfortable.
Anybody else notice this? On more 'luxurious' seats the leather is softer and has a bunch of folds and creases built-in from the factory.. but it seems to also be that for that very reason, they 'wear' faster.

I hope they at least give us the option for cloth on the higher performance models. Like others have said - when I sold my 1994 Z28 (and my 1989 grand am) the seats showed virtually no wear.
Truthfully, I only really want leather in one place - the steering wheel .
