Scion's new generation not doing so well.
The scion was advertised to fill the ricer niche quite frankly with the ability to customize so much of the scion right from the dealer.
The ricer fad has died down some from it's peak some years back not to mention sales of most cars are down. So it stands to reason the scion is down too.
I give toyota props though. While I hate ricers they are the only car maker had the ***** to come out with a car where you could really get some extreme add on's that you can't get from most factory cars.
The equalivant for us would be able to order a camaro with headers and et streets right from the dealer and well even the SS packaged died 6 years ago.

Entirely true. What made the first generation Scions (especially the xB) cool was that they were genuine JDM products brought to the U.S. But could they bring over the 2nd Generation bB to replace the xB? No, they design a bloated "U.S." version just for us.
I don't know if there is any accuracy to this statement. I know two people directly that bought xBs, and neither of them cared about whether it was JDM or not. It was a cheap box, that stored a lot of stuff in it, and got good gas mileage. Of course, I know this "evidence" is simply heresay on my part, but I feel it is at least an acceptable rebuttal to your claim that had no backup to it whatsoever.
I have a softspot for upright breadboxes that go like hell.
And yes Al, I read that Jag story with that "little red farmtruck" on their bumper. Stuff like that is so cool to me.

Um, I didn't say "What made RussStang's friends buy an xB was that they were JDM products!"
I said what made it cool was that it was a JDM product. The original was light, fun to drive, roomy, very economical, and had a quirky style. I'd guess that at least some of these reasons played into their purchases. These strengths were baked in because they are what is valued in the Japanese market.
The second generation, designed specifically for the U.S. is ungainly looking, overweight, and no longer offers exceptional mileage. Because if it's for America, it's got to get fatter, more powerful, and bigger each generation. That's not what people want from Scion.

Since my original post in this thread, I took in on trade an '05 Scion xB last night, for an '04 Grand Cherokee Laredo. In the words of the previous owner, who owned it whole 5 months...
"This is the stupidest car I've ever seen. Its obviously designed to attract an 18 year old kid wanting good MPG and room for a keg, with the styling to attract old people. Its slow, unstable in crosswinds, and is just a dumb car. I don't know why I bought it."
I will say one thing....I have about 6 feet of headroom in it
We're showing it to some dumb 19 year old girl today who's daddy is buying her a car that has to say Toyota on it somewhere. If she doesn't want it, I'm wholesaling the stupid thing...

I think it's plain that you have a dislike for Scions, and that is fine, but while I'd say that some of Toyota's efforts to promote Scion as a tuner brand have been misguided (dress up parts do not a tuner make) there are lots of Scion owners who do actually mod their cars.
Yes, lots of people bought Scions because they are practical, cheap, and get good gas mileage, but that's not the only reason.
