Saw why the Silverado SS will sell last night...

I was at the dealer last night because my G/F decided she wanted a Trailblazer and they had a Silverado SS in the showroom. This guy came in and was looking at it, he said he looked at it a week ago and his wife told him no over the phone. He said he wanted to replace his 3 year old Silverado with something newer. I asked if he was looking at a performance truck why he wasn't looking at a Lightning. He said he need the functionality of a truck and the towing capacity for his boat, plus he wanted an AWD truck for the winter. He pretty much said he wanted a truck that looked good and performed well but was still functional. He ended up buying it pretty much for sticker...so I guess he really wanted it. Anyway I guess this is the same reason they are able to sell the S-10 Extreme at a decent clip. I wonder how many people out ther are in the same situation as this guy?

I have been pretty surprised that Silverado SS's AWD feature has been so overlooked by it's bashers.

The S10 Exteme wasn't as functional: it was only available as 2WD.

The S10 xtreme appeals to youth really well, thats why it sells.

Send some of the guys that want functionality down to Dayton and have them buy the ones rotting on our lots.

Ehh, but you can get that from any Chevy 4x4 for a lot less than what he paid for the SS. Hey whatever, he bought what he wanted to, but herein lies the reason why the point of Silverado SS, especially at over $40,000, still baffles the hell out of me.

Oh, really? A Silverado 1500 extended cab LT, Z71 4x4, starts at $36,000 base MSRP! Even the LS starts at over $27k, and most are running $33-34k. When you consider that the SS gains 60hp, gets 20" rims, and looses a clunky 4wd system for AWD, the deal isn't that bad.

There again, maybe the sticker price on just about every full-sized truck is outrageous.

Yup. I notice in the papers some Chevy dealers offer $4000 off MSRP on new trucks. Then they sound a bit more reasonable..

Using the Chevy build your own tool on the web, it seems like if you want a plain 4.8L V8 1500 truck, its going to cost you $23,000 off the bat, with no options... ouch! Its disturbingly easy to option out even a 5.3L 15000 to hit $30,000... ouch.. and the 2500 models are even more expensive...

I have always loved the 99-02 style 1500 trucks when they are lowered. If I wasn't looking for a Camaro now I would buy a used 1500 99-02 model, drop it paint it and send it to Chapman to add the blower etc. It would be an awesome sleeper, but I really want a camaro so I'm looking (PS if anyone has one for sale PM me) but no way I would buy the SS.. i'm sorry I would rather *gulp* switch camps and get the Harley F-150 that thing is uber cool

I, for one, really like the SS. I'm pretty sure you can get a supercharger for the 6.0, which I've been trying to talk my friend into for his Sierra C3.

I saw a ext. cab 2500HD with the Desiel on a dealer lot the other with a MSRP of $45,000 and it didn't even come with Dubs.

Full size trucks in general are expensive, I think if they put the 395HP 6.0L in the SS $39,995 would have seemed more reasonable.
