Saw a GM EV1 on the road today...?

It's too bad GM didn't keep the EV1 program going. I'd like to see GM make plug in Hybrids.
A plug-in-hybrid version of the Opel Astra (sold as a Saturn) would rock http://photos1.blogger.com/img/239/9...stra%20GTC.jpg

And make it RWD with a six speed tranny while you're at it!! I'd take that for a year round daily driver over my appliance of a Honda Accord anyday.

Chris, I saw one here too not too long ago, on 696. We may have seen the same one. I was going to post something about it but I forgot. Wonder what the deal is?

Hybrid program at GM is still rolling on. It's completely messed up at the moment, and has been horribly mismanaged and is way behind schedule and nowhere near on track, but it is still rolling on.

I used to valet in San Francisco 2 years ago. One of the resturants I was at is owned by the mayor, Gavin Newsom. He actually owns one of these, a silver one. I never got to drive it because it was always up front, but I did knwo the code at one point, at that opened the doors and started the car. I remember it said he always had about 30 miles left in it's range.

Invent a power storage device that can carry the car 1k and your wish could come true. All the rest is just refinement. I couldn't even guess at how much battery it would take to get the car to travel 1,000 miles?
IMO good ol' dino juice is the best we've got well into the foreseable future and continued refinement of of the internal combustion engine (in whatever form it takes) is are best bet. The only technology that seems promising to me is an electric hybrid. All the rest just doesn't seem to stack up. Especially when it comes to total pollution, total energy and resources which comes up weak compared oil.

I think a range of 200 miles would be suffecient for most people commuting back and forth to work and that's what these would be for. I doubt anybody is going to take their cramped electric car out on cross country safari tour. But your right, these would revolutionize the industry if and ONLY if - the cost of a 200 mile electric fill up is LESS then the cost of a 200 mile gas fill up. Don't know how that would stack up against each other...
200miles/30mpg@3.00/gal = $20.00.
x amount of kW for 200 miles???????????? = Unknown
