Saturn to move upscale (on top of Chevy/Pontiac)
Saturn to move upscale (on top of Chevy/Pontiac)
Not sure I agree with the move because the perception with Saturn is that they are plastic econo-boxes but here is the link

Re: Saturn to move upscale (on top of Chevy/Pontiac)
Saturn......
they will never be over Chevy or Pontiac, they are cheap cars. I see them as GM's "Lets see what happens if we do this" cars. It's like they have crazy designs and then don't care if they flop. I wouldn't buy one. Not even a Saturn Camaro.....

Boy, GM sure is stickin that knife in deeper, and twisting it harder to all those Olds fans. Thanks GM
funny, I though that Buick was supose to fill the void left from Olds

Re: Saturn to move upscale (on top of Chevy/Pontiac)
Ya, this is really ludicrous.
They axe Olds because it competed too much with Buick, and then they take their Saturn "import-fighting econo-division" and want to make it was Olds was??
This makes no sense at all.
I've been a defender of Saturn simply because I think the "goodwill" and customer satisfaction ratings are so hard to come by... but this doesn't make sense.
Saturn does have a reputation of being "cheap cars"...
I just shake my head at this one.

Priced higher than Pontiac/Chevy
so then that would put it in the Acura/Buick price catagory?
Saturn would make a better youth brand, or a tree hugger brand with a line-up of best in class mpg hybrid and diesel cars.

And this is even the "trendy" thing to do right now with Scion and everything, and GM even has a customer base with Saturn...
sigh... I dont get it.

they should've either kept olds, or just start building opels and let saturn die
a first impression is very important, and the first impression of saturn is cheap, plastic transportation
jmho
Re: Saturn to move upscale (on top of Chevy/Pontiac)
What is the logic behind this? There was nothing wrong with oldsmobile that a good ad campaign, which they had, would not have fixed.
If Cadillac wants to fight MB, and Chevy/Pontiac/Buick, is Ford/Mercury/Lincoln then where does that put Saab? And didn't I read GM wanted Buick to compete with Lexus I really don't see how thats a different catergory then Bimmer and Benz? So instead of having two mid luxury brands, olds and buick, they intend to have to high luxury brands Caddy and Buick, and bump Satuhrn of all things up to mid luxury??????????????? WTF
Who is making these decisions at GM, do they have some wondrous or cacaophonic engineering plan we know nothing about that neccisitates decision like these or what?

Re: Saturn to move upscale (on top of Chevy/Pontiac)
THe problem I see is that GM is going after too many different market segments, and they are not consistent. If Pontiac was going after BMW, and now Saturn is supposed to be above Pontiac? Meaning, Saturn above BMW? Give us a break.
Appears that they are remodeling a number of their divisions, and it's sort of haphazard which direction they will go in. Either there is a lot of uncertainty and chaos, or they are trying to "spice up" their usual redesign/remodeling with such phrases as "BMW fighter", "north-american Opel", "Lexus competitor", meaning attempting to add value to their products with such catchy phrases.
Time will show whether GM will deliver on its promises, but for me it is very hard to perceive that all of a sudden GM is going after just about everyone out there.

Re: Saturn to move upscale (on top of Chevy/Pontiac)
Im gonna be very optimistic here . As of late , Ive been thinking more and more Opel should be here in the US . Its cars are fresh and look alot better than alot of the US GM cars .With opel heading up the overhall , Saturn should have a very euro distinctive , youthfull and upscale product line . Im pretty sure GM probably going for a VW type market with the new Saturns .
Although , the same problem that killed OLDS is gonna be a wall for Saturn to overcome . Regarless off how well Saturn customers love their cars , and how well they do in quality surveys , the general pop. view Saturns as throwaway cars . Just like the general pop. couldnt get over the fact that Olds was known as an old persons car . GM will have to have a rock solid product line and a beyond brilliant PR/advertising campaigne to move Saturn upscale and get people to take them seriously . More power to them . Its obvious the Saturn brand isnt going anywhere , so it may as well make some $$$$$ for a change .

Re: Saturn to move upscale (on top of Chevy/Pontiac)
I may be abit optimistic also. Hopefully, Saturn will get rebadged Opels here....without the Saturn restyle.
Opel is moving upscale in Europe, to take on VW directly. Chevy will take the entry level position in Europe, replacing Opel.
Saturn is going nowhere fast in it's current position, this just may work.
I just wish it was Olds rather than Saturn though.

Oh well... I'll just sit here and continue to wait for SOMEONE other than VW to put out a reliable, diesel hatchback or wagon with a stickshift.
