Sang Yup Lee moves to VW/Audi
I kind of agree with that. Name another car he has designed? I never heard of him until the Camaro. And Tom Peters isn't going anywhere either. Sang may have put the original sketches on paper, but those guys don't work in a bubble.
Also, who says there isn't opportunity at GM. Didn't Nesbitt just go from styling to Marketting? It sounds to me like he is cashing in on his one hot design. more power to him, but I have a hunch that GM will be just fine.

And the second that GM needed or wanted to, they would sh*t can him. I've never understood why anybody should be loyal to a company, and certainly not why somehow people should have this undying loyalty to car companies more than other companies. When working, you should only do what's best for you and your family. That's it. The second his designs weren't a hit, they would kick him to the curb. Get the money while the gettin' is good.
I am pretty sure the 99 GTO was a guy named Josh who is still there. And C6 wasn't exactly an earth shattering design either. I am happy for the guy for getting a new opportunity.
The head of styling at Hyundai is a GM guy too. GM is like boot camp or something!

From a global perspective, I believe that VW/Audi is very aggressively trying to take over the automotive world. Their sales targets are daunting, and its well known they are trying to expand.
It wouldn't surprise me if they are making unbelievable offers to collect some very inspirational designers. While I've enjoyed the VW/Audi styling of the last 10 years, I think that they need fresh perspective. If they don't have it, then they will buy it, and that appears to be exactly what they're doing.

I'm sure he got a raise, location change and a promotion from his GM job. I can tell you from the design world that it's hard to stay motivated in the same place when your tasked to think ahead all the time. I wouldn't take this as a knock on GM. I think if given the choice many of us would have jumped at this opportunity. Good for him.
