Same day, same dyno, same track Z06 vs. Viper vs. GTurd

Read 'em and weep.
The Z06 gave up .1 seconds in the quarter mile and 0-100, beat it by 14ft. in braking from 60mph, 40 ft. from 100mph, beat the GTurd by .05 on the skidpad (who cares...), beat the GTurd by .2 on the MotorTrend figure 8 (who cares...), then TROUNCED the GTurd by 4.2 seconds on the 1.6 mile road course (that's significant).
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winnar. However inept the MotorTrend guys are behind the wheel, they are at least equally inept. This is a same day test result and we can most reasonably now say that the GTurd has been rather soundly beaten.
Oh yeah...
...and there was a Viper there too.

Wasn't this just posted a month or two ago? I definitely agree tho, massive price difference but yet performs te same. Gee, something's wrong here. IMO, if I'm going to buy a 150,000 supercar, it damn well better have 1000 HP. Ok so I'll round up and say Z06 90,000 (Is this realistic? I'm just guessing, I vaguely remember hearing z06 was 80,000) that still leaves a good 60,000 in mods. And trust me, if I invested 60,000 in mods on the new C6 z06... it'll be damn exclusive as well. The exclusively fastest.

Z06 starts at $68,500, IIRC. Loaded, it will hit $72k. Viper starts at $86K, I believe.
BTW, even though I've driven the car twice, and done several 0-100+ blasts, it still blows my mind that a stock Corvette is capable of 127 mph trap speeds from the factory. (The GT's 129 mph is obviously awesome, too.) That LS7 is just ferocious.
Unreal. I'd be thrilled if I ever decided to play with my Camaro (or whatever replaces it) to get it to C5 Z06 territory (~116 mph traps, give or take). Now the new one just blows that away.

The new z06 is an animal. I would like to see a more comprehensive matchup against more cars, like the F430 and the Gallardo, and throw in a 911 Turbo for good measure.

Hmmm. On a 1.6 mile road course the with a lap time slightly over 1 minute, the Gt not only loses to the Z06 and Viper, but it lost by 4 seconds? Interesting.
BTW, the GT is more exclusive than the Z06, that is not debatable.

I guess you are right. What is debatable is just how important exclusitivity is. Depends on the person, but style over substance is not a mantra I particularily follow.

Thought anyone who hadn't already seen these articles might enjoy them about the LS7.

What's interesting is the engine rating for the LS7 was done using the new system specified by the SAE and is the only one to do so thus far. That system uses a more extensive loading system to more accurately predict real world horse power.
Notice it has:
Titanium Rods & intake valves
Sodium filled exhaust valves
Forged Crank
Dry sump oiling.

I'll take two. To hell with Ford's exclusivity. It's a damn Ford. They make/made the escort, taurus and focus... One hell of an exclusive bunch.

Its funny how the Ford GT was supposed to be a poor man's super car, beating out the Ferrari 360...yet the Z06 costs half as much, and can take on much more than a Ferrari 360 and Ford GT.
The Camaro is the poor man's corvette. The Corvette is every kids dream. The z06 is the poor man's super car.
edit: And it has better gas mileage. Go GM!

While I too think the best deal on wheels is the Z06, I guess I finally agreed with teh others in the original thread, that the GT's mission is more of a celebration of Ford's Racing Heritage....in limited production fashion....and therefore obviously more expensive to produce than the Z06.
That being said, I don't think Ford has shown itself to be capable of anything like the Z06....not in performance and price.

Yes, of course Ford's goal was a global cheerleader car, a badge of honor, a celebration of all things Ford.
However, they didn't do this with a sedan, or a Truck, or a wagon, or an SUV...they chose to make an exotic sports car.
And so, Ford set out to build an exotic that took all of Ford's legendary racing heritage, mix it up with modern amenities, lots of HP, and the output is a $150,000 supercar that puts Italian supercars to shame and then all the Ford employees celebrated and patted each other on the back, right?
Then the Z06 came out and beat it for 1/2 the price, and all the sudden all the glad handing and back slapping seems a little pointless. That pretty much sucks all the air out of Ford's cheerleading campaign IMO.
