RWD sedans for Ford and Lincoln?

From According to AH-HA regarding the Ford 427 Concept:

Remember this beast? Sure some of the design cues survived and are seen on the new Fusion, but new rumors are circulating that Ford is re-considering producing the 427 concept. Under the purported plan, two new sedans would be derived from Mustang's D2C platform, one for Ford and the other for Lincoln. Ford is surely looking at the success of Chrysler's LX cars and GM's Zeta plans as the impetus fro the new vehicles. The additional of two more vehicles to the D2C platform would greatly improve the economies of scale of the platform, which will come under increased pressure with the arrival of the Challenger and Camaro. This new Galaxie sedan would be poisitioned between Fusion and Five Hundred.

And AH-HA's comments on the above:
I'm taking this with a grain of salt. First off, Ford needs a place to build them and is running out of options. The St. Thomas plant will lose the aged Panther-based Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis around 2010 and could be used. But, volumes may not be enough to justify keeping a whole plant open. For a Lincoln sedan to be competitive and taken seriously, it would have to be equipped with an independent rear suspension that I'm doubtful Ford will spend to retro-fit D2C with. Don't count on seeing these anytime soon.

Very smart move by Ford. They (and GM) could really use a sporty affordable RWD sedan.
