IF only they'd had those minor changes for the debut........NOw, other than hoping for the Autocross grille (recessed looks Waaay better) I think it's EXACTLY what I thought a new GTO should look like.
Re: Revised 2005 Holden Monaro Unveiled cough GTO cough
I would go with the recessed grill over thoes goofy scoops. The scoops, IMO, ruin the design and the new position of the GTO and where Pontiac wants and needs to be. Thank God its optional. The duals out the back look good. I hope the exhaust sounds the same cause Pontiac nailed it. Everything else looks good. The new gauges mounted above the stack is cool as well. Its now the best bang for the buck by anyone. No one can offer as much power, ride, and luxury in one car for the price.
Re: Revised 2005 Holden Monaro Unveiled cough GTO cough
I really like all of the new changes, even the scoops. I think that it is great that they made them optional to be able to appeal to both "scoop" and "non-scoop" people. I liked the car to begin with, and this plus 400 hp only makes things that much better. I bet sales will quickly pick up.

Is it just me, or do those exhaust tips stick out way too far
They need to be tucked in a bit more with a slant cut to match the rear fascia...

Agreed and they very well may be. Remeber this is the monaro, the nose will still have the nostril pontiac grill. Everything else is the same, except for maybe the wheels and probably the foglights.

I think the Ram Air hood looks great and should keep everyone happy. I also hope it is a no cost option since a hood is a hood and shouldn't be $500+ just for one with scoops.
Re: Revised 2005 Holden Monaro Unveiled cough GTO cough
gah, whats that cheezy shiny plastic stuff around the center console? I'll pass on the hood.. anybody else have any info on the brakes? is it just the same + paint?
Re: Revised 2005 Holden Monaro Unveiled cough GTO cough
I haven't really been keeping up with the GTO, but do they plan on a differnt auto trans? Perhaps a 5 speed auto?
4-Speed Automatic Overdrive 16 / 21 mpg
6-Speed Manual Overdrive 17 / 29 mpg
8 mpg difference is pretty big. My Grand Prix GTP gets 26-28 on the highway and it is an 4 speed auto. The GTO is only 270 lbs heavier (3725 vs 3455) than my car?
Please no flames about why the 6 speed is better, I don't intend to argue that...
I was just trying to make the point that perhaps they would sell alot more if a more fuel efficent auto were offered??

The 6spd has a double over drive gear, both 5th and 6th gear are overdrive. 4th gear in the 4l65e is the only over drive gear, and with 3.46 rear end gears, gas milage seems to dip.
Re: Revised 2005 Holden Monaro Unveiled cough GTO cough
I'd bet if GM ever got around and putting a 5 or even 6 speed automatic in there, it'll may even gain a bit of performance along with mpg..

Re: Revised 2005 Holden Monaro Unveiled cough GTO cough
I am digging the mini-dual foglights, and 400hp and 29mpg highway is awesome! How many other cars in this world (excluding other GM cars) having that much horsepower and performance and getting that good of a gas mileage? Ummm.....none.
Re: Revised 2005 Holden Monaro Unveiled cough GTO cough
Excepting some minor personal preferences, I think the car in those pics looks very, very good. The nose is MUCH better than the 2004 GTO (could do with or w/o the hood scoops). However, won't Pontiac change that back to the "Grand Prix" nose that is on the current car? If not, I like the hell out of it. If so......we'll see.
