What! That is crazy. Am I missing something here, how can you get less mileage from more gears.

I don't get it either. What rear gears does each truck have?

Pretty simple: more gears=more weight.

The 6L80e has always have been attended for performance/towing first, fuel economy economy second. Yes with 6L80e you do see a increase in mpgs but not to a huge degree when compared to the 4L60e.

Perhaps lower revs (due to taller 6th gear) prevents running in V4 mode as much, so any mpg increase is offset. Just a guess why we are seeing no increase in highway mileage with the 6-speed. Still don't really understand the drop in city mileage, though. Makes me feel better about not waiting for 09 model. FWIW, I'm averaging about 19 mpg in my 08. That's up 1 mpg from my comparable 04 Silverado. Of course, at least half of my driving is 55-65 mph rural highway, so the AFM is probably helping quite a bit.

Seems odd to me.

You are missing something. It appears that the 5.3L A4 also lost 1 mpg city.

they should've just waited until the direct injected gas engines were ready to be released...

or at the very least added the weight reduction changes that were done to the hybrid vehicles...
