Another option is to start with contract agencies. Many large employers, GM included, fill the majority of their vacancies with contract personnel. Once you're in the door, however, the top performers will be quickly "rolled over" into salaried GM staff. Basically GM uses the contract agencies as their personnel department because it makes it easier for them to 'test drive' an employee before making a commitment.
