Question about new Impala

When is the next generation impala coming out? Is it 2006? The wife needs a new car and I was thinking Impala SS but if the Cobalt is only 20HP behind I am sure it is a much lighter car. And we both love teh styling of the Cobalt. Is the Impala SS supposed to get a power boost as well?

redesign will come next year.
And 20hp above the cobalt? more like 35.
As for power, Id like to see a 3.5 standard, and a 3.9 optional. Possible supercharged 3.9 making 300hp in a SS model? Would be nice.

well with the release of the info, it uses the same 205 hp ion RL engine. Its car is probably very underrated. They dynoed 197 to the wheels of an unbroken in RL. I figure after break in, a good 240 from the crank. This car with a good driver could be a low 14sec car.

Isn't the Impala SS getting a 300HP 5.3L V8?

Impala SS will be getting the 5.3L but it will have TQ management. I am also starting to wonder if it won't actually be somewhere between 280 and 290 HP since they are still using the 4T65E. Grand Prix guys are frying those with a pulley

Also I would look for a 200 HP base 3.5L and a 240 HP 3.9L midlevel. There is also the 18V 39L that makes 270HP available.

ahh, right you are.
Id like that set up much better, but a supercharged 3.9 would be nice.
and fragging that trans with a pulley!! Whats the one in the Deville/Bonnie GXP? 4T80E right? Looks like they are gunna have to either make it RWD, or add the 80 to the line up. I dont see how the 80's gunna hold up to the 5.3's torque either. It says torque limit is 305. A supercharged 3.9 would cost less then the 18v 3.9 and make more power.

Impala & Monte Carlo will be introduced on next year's auto show circuit, and will be called 2006 models.

Form's right about 5.3 and torque management... as well as that pretty pathetic tranny some GTP owners are breaking.

Kind of reminds you of our F-bod differentials, only more expensive.

Has the 4T65E been beefed up at all? is it the same 280tq one that is in the GTPs now?

If those cars can't handle the 5.3L then why didn't GM use a 4.8L?

I didn't know the 4.8L was done, what year does that start? Last I heard the 5.3L was going to be rated 310HP in the '05 Silverado. That will leave a pretty big gap in the line up between the 200HP 4.3L V6 and 310HP+ 5.3L V8.

I forgot about the 4.2L I6. If they use that, it would really fit in nice as a 4.3L & 4.8L replacement.
