A proper ponycar? From Hyundai?

http://www.automochatter.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=1007

Above is a computer rendering of what an '09/'10 RWD Tiburon might look like. Based on Hyundai's upcoming RWD BH platform - could include both V6 and V8, normally aspirated and blown engines.

We've seen this architecture under the Genesis concept, and talk is that a V8 version of that high content car, might be had for under $30K.

The BH architecture sounds about the same size as GM's Zeta and apparently Hyundai will offer a LWB version as well. The Genesis carries the same approximate dimensions as the G8, so it may follow that a shortened coupe version might be in the same size class as Camaro and Mustang.

A coupe version based on the Genesis's BH would give this Hyundai ponycar (Tiburon?) a more sophisticated chassis than Mustang or even Camaro.

The most sophisticated chassis in it's class, RWD, V8's, low cost. Let the games begin.....

What is it that would make that chassis the "most sophisticated" in it's class? I understand that it'd be more sophisticated than the Mustang, but what makes it better than Zeta?

The 300-hp V8 from the Genesis should allow it to run with the Mustang, though.

This is assuming that Hyundai has the ***** to do something like this. That rendering looks pretty cool.

According to Hyundai's Genesis press release, it sounds like the front suspension will be more sophisticated than Zeta's.

Also, Hyundai mentions that the "Tau" V8 can also have it's displacement increased or use forced induction if higher power levels are required.

Hyundai is getting aggresive. They know they have the momentum and are taking their chances. It's the way it should be in such a competitive market.

Hyundai is definitely taking some risks.

I don't know if they'd call this car "Tiburon", though. It might put off the ricer crowd.

Tuscani as it is badged elsewhere sounds so much better.

Maybe, but I don't think that name belongs on a pony car. Doesn't have that same ring as "Camaro", "Mustang", "Challenger", etc. It sounds like an expensive wine, or a ho-hum family sedan.

The thought of someone finally designing a modern styled pony car gets my attention ... too bad it had to be an import brand. Call me a snob, but I honestly couldn't see having a Hyundai in my garage. Although the styling isn't that great anyhow, with its exaggerated wheel arches and enlarged Subaru grille. It looks too much like a FWD ricer.

And I would agree with Skorpion that they shouldn't name it Tiburon but for the opposite reason: it would put off anyone who's not a ricer, since the immediate association would be with the sorority-special car they've been making for the last decade.

That rendering is a G6 from the front 1/4 back w/ a different front end.

We have heard rumors of a V6/V8 pony-type car coming from Hyundai for a long, long time now if I recall. In fact, a few years ago it was said that tall coupe-thing was going to be built with a V8. I don't remember what it was called but it had a very high stance....someone help me out here.

EDIT: It was the Talus concept.

Interesting if built, the one alternative in the market that isn't at least "heritage-inspired" (probably because they don't have a heritage).

Tiburon is spanish for shark. Which is kind of apropos looking at the concept.

I don't think that looks like any shark I've ever seen, aside from a whale shark:

What do you think "well over 300 horsepower" means? I'm thinking atleast 350. Toyota said the same about their 5.7 before it came out and it ended up with 380.
