Britain's Channel 4 reports that GM will be making an announcement related to the Chevy Volt when the curtain lifts on the 2008 edition of the Modial de l'Automobile, better known around here as the Paris Motor Show. Channel 4 reports that we can expect to see the U.S. production-spec Volt on display in the City of Lights. That's big news in and of itself, and we're wondering if GM will use the occasion to tell Europe when they can plan on getting an Opel-branded E-Flex ride of their own. Hmmm... An official Camaro unveiling this summer and now the production Volt in Paris? Color us intrigued about what GM plans to blow everyone away with in Detroit next January.

Awesome if true! Seems a bit optimistic though. I would have thought the productions-spec volt would be introduced early-mid '09 as a '10.
It would make PR sense though, strike while the iron is hot (i.e. people are still reeling from that $4.50+/gallon summer).

I had seen a zillion concept photos of the Camaro, the press-drive event limited to 40mph via video, but showing up at the Seattle auto show to see the concept in person actually brought tears to my eyes. The display was stunning. This is why they still make a big fuss about auto shows and big public unveilings of their new cars.

Dude, it's like talking on the phone to someone who you haven't seen in a really long time, and then picking them up in person at the airport. It's just that much more exciting.

You cant drive the cars, and when they debut these things you cant even sit in them, they spin around while you stare at hotties who have no clue what theyre talking about blabber on about crash test ratings...

I just noticed that youre probably from seattle or something. I guess its a little different from you. Here in Detroit, I see them driving around all the time. Ive seen camaros on the road, I see the next gen mustangs just about everyday, my neighbor has had a challenger for like 3 months. Hell, I saw the bumblebee camaro on my way back from lunch driving around 2 weeks before they even announced that there would be a transformers movie. I guess my views are skewed being so close to the source

Yup, I think the Pacific Northwest gets almost nothing in terms of new vehicle unveilings/shows/concept vehicles on the road.
The auto shows around here are a big deal for me because all I can do is see pics on the internet. Seeing it at the auto show makes a big difference for me.
So, for you, that would be like looking at the MySpace page, and then parking next to the playground and watching during recess?

Looks like the new Cobalt will be debuting soon too.
Considering the Volt will reportedly be shown in its U.S.-spec trim, its overseas unveiling may seem odd but could prove to be a PR blessing for Chevrolet's European operations. While the Volt may not make it to showrooms across the pond, the crush of journalists from our side of the pond could make Chevrolet's stand one of the busiest at the Paris show. The car may increase attention to other Chevy offerings - most notably a new sedan for Europe, built from the same next-generation Delta platform as the Volt.
Europeans shouldn't ignore the car outright; although the Volt itself may not cross the pond, GM has hinted (via Opel and Saab concepts) that its E-Flex hybrid powertrain design just may.
