Yeah, the Bugatti has a permanent factory limiter of 253 because of its tires.

Makes you wonder how far away 300 mph is for a factory car.

Oh probably another 5 or 600 hp, IIRC, it takes 500 to get to 180 or so then the rest to hit 253, but its been awhile since I read the article on the Bugatti

It takes the rest to hit it's 253mph limiter. The car has more in it.

Assuming it doesn't fly off the road from being unstable.

Given the downforce technology built into this vehicle, I don't believe it would unless the driver was doing some really stupid driving, but yes, all we can do is assume on this.

It does not make much downforce at all in top speed mode. The redesign gave it marginal stability at it's top speed limiter, but going past that would not be a good idea unless you really trust the stability control at 255mph.

Yeah, I am aware downforce is reduced as top speed is approached to give the car a cleaner aerodynamic cut into the wind, but I would be much more concerned about problems with the tires at that speed than the car's aero. At those speeds, tires have a hard time dissipating the extreme amounts of heat that are generated in them, an even a tire that is safe at 253mph for an extended duration would start to worry me doing much faster than that.

I bet you could regear and 8-second car, and it would get close to 240. That's with the horrible aerodymaics.
Actually, its alot harder than you think. Drag racing and top speed runs are very different.
Drag racing is about high power, at short burts of time and distance.
High speed runs is about high power, over long periods of time and distance..

Drag engines itself aren't made to produce max power over long periods of time.. High speed runs are torture on engines. Max RPM, max HP, at max load, over an extended period of time. and the faster you want to go, I think the amount of hp increases dramatically.

So is drag racing, but only for a few seconds.

Plus a drag car is NOT a production car.. although these super cars can barely be caled production cars..

Probably, but the tires weren't the problem that delayed development forever.
