Pontiac performance flagship SPECULATION thread....
*********WARNING!!! PURE SPECULATION!!!!!!!*************
What if Pontiac came out with really kick-butt version of the G8 sedan? Maybe 400 or so hp, 6 speed manual, retuned suspension, big brakes, 18" or 19" wheels.
What would you think of that? Would it be a car to lust after?

Now how would you feel if this version of the G8 were called GTO?

Re: Pontiac performance flagship SPECULATION thread....
As I said with the Charger, I'll say with the GTO.
GTO's do not have 4 doors.
If they make a coupe version of the G8, and call it GTO... well, that may be more acceptible.

Re: Pontiac performance flagship SPECULATION thread....
That car would be awesome, but unlike the hood scoops 2 doors are a must for a GTO. I'd say just call the Sedan GXP or GT*

If I could buy a GM sedan like that with a six speed, in the next year or two, at a 300C price......I'd be on it in a heart beat.
I could even live with it being called GTO. (ducking)

See... if this were a Chevy, would you be suggesting slapping "Camaro" on it?
Of course not.

Re: Pontiac performance flagship SPECULATION thread....
I'm just glad we finally have something to talk about...
I've had some hell weeks of school and haven't been able to read everything but I know it's caused enough stir to bring out some of the members I'm used to, not the ones that joined yesterday...
I would rather have a 2 door GTO, I don't like the idea of badgering a name to sell cars.

Re: Pontiac performance flagship SPECULATION thread....
Would I buy into a performance version of a Pontiac 4-door called the GTO?
I don't have a problem with the idea of a 4-door performance car.
The problem is that any future RWD Pontiac (sedan or coupe) needs to make a complete styling break with the current Grand Prix and even the G6. Forget the long overhangs, the swoopy headroom stealing rooflines and the oh-so-cheesey twin nostril grill.
If the next generation GTO had decent packaging and modern lines, I'd quickly forget about the extra pair of doors. Pontiac's designs should be inspired by the chiseled functionality of the '60s. Think stacked headlight, think notchback rooflines, think 1964 to 1967.
It's time to put the '80 and '90s "heritage" of Pontiac to rest. There's nothing about the modern era that's worth saving.
R.I.P. Rest In Pieces.

Re: Pontiac performance flagship SPECULATION thread....
The GTO guys were up in arms over lame hood scoops, I think there would be revolution in the streets if it had 4 doors. And I would have to join them.

) I think that formula would trounce the 300 , 300c ect . I vote no for the 4 door GTO , imo , it would be more UN-accepted than the Monaro as a GTO , and the monaro was a modern version to a tee .
Grand Prix or LeMans
I hope they lose the G8 designation .
Re: Pontiac performance flagship SPECULATION thread....
I would have no problem with a G8 based GTO, as long as its a coupe. By coupe I mean two doors, and not four doors with a marketing excuse tacked on.
Imagine it. A real, full size two door again. Thats something we havent seen since the demise of the 77-90 B-bodies... Of course, the one we're talking about makes a whalebody look positivley boring in comparison, but still.
Price the 4dr in line with the 300, with the Chevy version in line with the Charger/Magnum, and have the coupe come in about $2-4k above the sedan. Oh, and give it options. Thats very important. An optionless car will not sell in significant numbers.

Sorry, but a 4-door GTO doesn't cut it and Pontiac actually realizes that. I'd rather have them cancel the GTO than put that name on a 4 door sedan.

Maybe that's the problem with GM.
