Pontiac performance flagship SPECULATION thread....
Re: Pontiac performance flagship SPECULATION thread....
What's wrong with suicide doors? Still gets most of the coupe looks, and then the functionality of the 4-door. I wouldn't even mind if they did that to the firebird.
Re: Pontiac performance flagship SPECULATION thread....
GM does some crazy things....but I really think they are not this stupid. Nothing good can come of it...plain and simple.
I think they should run the current GTO in NASCAR......just a random thought..

I haven't met one guy with an old GTO, who didn't think that the new GTO was sent to earth by satan himself.
A pity, since it may be the best GTO ever made. On the other hand, there are people like me, who were considering a 6 speed GTO, but didn't buy, because it doesn't have 5 passenger seating, and has essentially no trunk.
Forget the classic GTO guys......they'll reject any new GTO just because it doesn't have a Pontiac 389/400/455 motor.
But a guy like me though.............
I'd buy.

I do not understand what you are saying. You're saying you will not buy a present GTO because it does not have the practicality you need, but you would be more inclined to buy a car in the class you need if it were inappropriately named GTO?
Dude, that makes no fawking sense. Why bastardize yet another classic car name in order to polarize the market in hopes of getting a few more sales for a model that is already capable of selling on it's own merit?
Charger anyone? Or am I misunderstanding you? If Im wrong please correct...

It's time to put the '80 and '90s "heritage" of Pontiac to rest. There's nothing about the modern era that's worth saving.

As for the 4-door performance sedan it shoudl get a new name entirely in my opinion. If it is going to use a classic pontiac name plate I think maybe Lemans would be a good choice (yes, i know it was a 2-door as well).

Nope. You've got it right.
I never remember a previous GTO ever being a 2+2, though. Too bad, the old GTO would have been a perfect fit for me. Can the fact that the new GTO is now a 2+2 and not the classic GTO formula of a 5 passenger intermediate with a big trunk, be defined as "bastardized"? And whom is the bastardizer? The new Goat?
BTW, Charger would require some cosmetic revisions and a 6 speed for me to consider.

And just to clear the record.....I am ABSOLUTELY not slamming old GTO owners. I'm only going by my experiences. And my experiences are....everytime I talk to a guy in a GTO club...or someone who owns an old GTO......and say that I like the new GTO.....they'll spend 20 minutes ripping my head off.
And if a car purchase doesn't meet your needs....it's lame not to buy it anyway......because......why????
Re: Pontiac performance flagship SPECULATION thread....
Just to touch on the comments of "losing the played out 80's styled twin grille and going back to Pontiac's 60's roots styling...."
Um, Pontiac's have had twin grill styling on most of their cars since the 60's
Also, the twin grille styling isn't referred to a "old or tired" when it comes to BMW's that use basically the same styling cue.
I will say that I think they need ot find some new ways of applying the twin grille styling trait, and that the application of it on the current cars is a bit too similar, but there's nothing worng with twin grille styling.

Re: Pontiac performance flagship SPECULATION thread....
Dodge is apparently not taking too much flak from it's loyalists by giving them a Charger with 4 doors, GM probably thinks they can get away with the same thing with GTO.
Whatever they decide to do, GTO didn't sell well until it was marked down to the mid twenties...where Mustand GT and 300C (not the top shelf Hemi) roughly are. That should tell them that PRICE and VALUE sell cars, not reviving old nameplates to incite dealer gouging.
Who doesn't like to save money/Get a lot for their money?

Still, the whole "Hemi" thing has really taken off even though it's not designed like the traditional Hemi. I guess it depends on who you ask.
