Is Pontiac getting out of the RWD V8 business?
Is Pontiac getting out of the RWD V8 business?
This story: http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/Ar...ID=19138&vf=12 posted by crYnOid got me thinking.
That - plus earlier reports of a "Kappa II" (or whatever) line of smaller RWD cars coming to Pontiac.
Food for thought.

Re: Is Pontiac getting out of the RWD V8 business?
This quote stands out as a fairly strong hint.
"We were looking at that (Solstice) hardware as a potential base . . . to do a sedan off that. That's fundamentally what we'd do," Mr Mooney says.

Did I miss something?
That article is talking about creating a 3series type car, how does that equate to them "getting out" of RWD, which realistically they aren't "into" at this point?
I suppose if that car came at the expense of a larger RWD car then perhaps...
In any case, that sounds to me like what the G5 should be, sounds to me like something Cadillac needs to have a hand in as well... But im just one guy on the internets.
[EDIT] Oh, was the emphasis supposed to be on "V8"? I think a six or FI 4 would be ideal for what they are talking about creating and what Pontiacs lineup needs... Everything shouldnt have an LS2... :hides: [/EDIT]

Dennis Mooney is right. A BMW 3 series is my idea of a perfectly sized car...tossible size... and a high powered 6 is perfect.
A Torana-like sports sedan, with GM's upcoming high output 300 horse V6, a good 6 speed manual tranny and a sub $30,000 price tag would be hard to beat.
A coupe version, however, IMO would be good base as a new Pontiac Firebird, swoopy bodywork and all. I DON'T believe Torana should be made as a coupe, though. While a Firebird that continues the 4th gen's design theme wouldn't overlap with Camaro, I feel a "3 box" Torana coupe would.
