As expected the LS3 will be in the G8 GXP. Many touted the LS3 as too powerful or expensive to be in the G8 and much less Camaro. Why I didn't know.

As for the power rating. We should be used to GM using different ratings on power for the same engine. I'm curious to see if there is actually any difference in parts besides the intake track and exhaust from the 430hp C6.

They're trying to price power and not by actual cost. I don't see how the LS3 is any more expensive than the LS2 to produce. GM is just hoping to charge a premium for power, kind of sad we're all excited about a car(G8 GT) that has 40 less hp and 400lb's more weight and restrict it to auto only then charge a premium over it to get us back to where we were with the GTO which was faster, lighter, and was cheaper with a manual(no gas guzzler). I don't get it, why more money for a heavier, slower, same horsepower car we could get 2 years ago for $30k that was much faster?

Pontiac underrates the hp in these introductions. They originally announced the Grand Prix GXP as having 290 hp, and it came out with 303.

More to the point...HOLY CRAP! Am I dreaming? This is the car Pontiac has needed for twenty years. It has "only" 400 horsepower and a six speed. That 4.7 0-60 estimate means G8 GXP drivers can forget about the lowly SRT-8 and start revving up next to M5's at the stoplight.

It looks like this car has everything it needs to well, and it looks like it has good advertising as well. Now all we need is for someone to explain basic economics to Pontiac dealers (ie: raising the price reduces demand) and we'll be all set.

SRT-8 are getting more firepower in the next two years as well so I don't think you can look over them JUST yet. Although I'm thinking the LS3 is going to be more mod friendly.

QFTMFT...

no demand if your not selling them.. That is what I don't understand today with these dealers..they want the quick 5-10K for the "market adjustment" or hows this "price gouging"..Now with that if they sold it for near MSRP instead of DS(Rip off)P..then you have the chance of having someone come in for not just this car..but thier next car and theri wifes car and thier kids cars and grow a bond with the dealer and a trust to come back..heck right there thats over 100K in cars alone for one family...yet they gouge for 5-10K on ONE sale..good thinking..
What ever happened to "take care of the customer and they take care of you." ? Still works you know..

The benefit of this over a GTO is simple...

2 more doors.

I would rather have a coupe, as I'm sure many of you would. However, most of the buying public needs a sedan.

I think the GXP will do well and after NOT considering a G8 GT for purchase (because of the staid looks) I think the GXP has probably won me over.

Powerhouse no doubt...no doubt.
Wish they did more to spice up the front, but for once Pontiac is no longer going ***** out with its plastic cladding and additional scoops...

430hp would have put it 5hp north of the SRT8 twins, but something tells me that this car will put a few lengths on the Hemi Cousins.
6spd manual too...ohhhhhhh baby. Id venture to say that this will be similar to the SS trim on the Camaro. 14 inch rotors with 4 pistions in front too!!! This sucker is gunna come down reaaaaaaaal fast!
I cannot wait till Weds!!

I love that they didn't go too crazy with the front end. Looks perfect imo.

Actually, I would like to see some proof of this statement, because engine dynoes I have been privy to in the past have shown otherwise.

I dunno, I dynoed my car at 310 to the rear wheels bone stock. Must be one efficient drivetrain.
