I really like the Mustang concept---looks aggesive and tough--it like a car--not a blob of jelly--a few minor teaks and it would look great. Those comments are really for the coupe---the vert I'm not so hot to trot on---roll bar is a no, no

SS concept looks kinda like a 4 door RX8--but not nearly as good looking.

 

There is a lot I do not like about the SS, but there is very little I like about the Mustang....

 

I picked the Mustang because it does look good and it has production possibilities. (how much of the concept will be in the 05 is anyones guess?) The SS concept from what I've seen is nice but much like the DCX Charger concept from a few years back it seems to be only a theme vehicle used to show design direction. Many future Chevy's will most likely draw on some of the design elements. But the actual car will never be produced. Production or concept for production vehicles always get more attention from me.

 

For this poll, I seriously put aside my bias, and just looked at "cars" without names or bagdes... I have also basically ignored performance issues, since you didn't specify base-unit, GT, or Cobra in the poll header.

For practicality, durability, and everyday use - there is no question in my mind. Picture a 20-something single person who makes $30k/yr and can have 1 car to get groceries, go to the beach, skiing, park in mall lots, drive to work EVERY DAY, maybe haul a couple friends out for dinner and a movie, etc. The Mustang wins hands down.

For a person with some extra $, looking for a weekend car to show off at the country club, go to cruise-ins, or maybe even have some fun racing a little - the SS has it IMO, simply because of it's unique styling. It's gonna turn some heads! I question the overall practicality of the vehicle to serve a one-car person's lifestyle.

Summed-up : I like the styling of the SS quite a bit. The lines are very sexy IMO. I think the Mustang is a good looking car (the coupe especially ) that is stylish in it's own way. It may not turn heads like the SS but it will be practical to a fault, just as it has been for decades now.

Since I'm more of a "common guy", I go with the "common car".

I really like that silver fastback. That and hearing that the production version actually looks better. The only thing i didn't like on the Stang concept was the tailights and that will change for the production model.

Overall, i'm throughly impressed with the upcoming mustang. They gambled by going retro and they gambled right in my opinion. It's retro yet modern and the performance #'s should look good.

Come 2004.5, i'd like to buy one in that same silver.

 

You do realize you are comparing a fairly large sedan to a small sporty car.

Why not just throw the Dodge Durango concept in for good measure?

 

I'm sorry but even though its a four door sedan, the SS is a more original "concept". The Mustang is just a freaking retro clone. No creativity what-so-ever.

Besides... is a Ford.

The SS looks like another bland and boring streamlined snore, not to mention a 4 door. It has no shape or character.

The Mustang being "unoriginal" is a good thing. From what I've seen, modern design(Like the SS)is designed in a wind tunnel to make sure any actual style gets smoothed out and make it look like everything else on the road(a rounded off blob with wheels ) Anything designed after a 60's car with RWD and a V8 can't be bad.

 

I’m going to be honest and say I picked the SS because I'm a GM guy at heart. I don’t think if I had the money I buy either of the cars based on the styling of them. I like, but mostly dislike things about both cars. I went into more detail about the SS in another thread, but I basically think its too bubbly, without enough aggression. I like where its going, like with the rear end and parts of the front fascia but its going to have to get more style in it before I'd drop cash for it. I love the silver fastback stang. It has promise. Yet I agree with you guys that it is way too retro. One reason I became a Camaro fan was the fact that each generation builds off of each other instead of copying the last. Kind of like each new gen is a futuristic push forward. I think the mustang is almost stuck on doing the same styling cues over and over again. Don’t get me wrong I know its good to carry stuff over for it to be recognized but sometimes I think the mustang over exaggerates. That’s just my opinion though. Finally I think the red stang is just plain ugly. I tried to like it but it just doesn’t do it for me. It just looks fat to me. In the end I’d really like to see these cars in person. It would give me a better idea of my favorite.

And Proud, go into more detail on why you think the SS is less practical then the Stang. That just doesn’t make sense to me. They are relatively the same size, but the SS has four doors. You can't pull the price of the car into this because these are concept cars. While I'd rather see a two door SS, it is more of a sedan like then the stang. I would think the SS would have more interior room. More everyday use. Anyway, I'm not trying to flame you because your a Ford guy, I'd just like to see where your going with that.

 

SS looks like ****, im sorry but it has import lines all the way around it, Powertrain is there with its 430hp but so the **** what?? so is the mustang with its 400? and COMPARING APPLES TO ORANGES??? *tsk* *tsk* actually if you want to compare something compare the new 427roadster to the SS just for ****s and giggles...

roadster- enough room for 5-6 people + luxury aspect and a 590hp v-10

ss- import styling enough COMFORTABLE room for 2 a good 430hp powertrain and really no luxury aspect but geared towards performance

winner- roadster in every department expect for handling

 

I've dumped better looking things in my toilet at home than the new SS.

If someone gave me one for free I would sell it in an instant.

 

viewing the SS on a straight side shot, it doesn't look too bad...

but its too bulbous on the other angles.. someone mentioned it looked like an overgrown rx-8..

 

I don't like either.
