Re: Paging PoSSum: Hows the TrailBlazer SS so far??

Well ....

It's been home for almost 20 hours now

My wife drove it most of the 2 1/2 hours bringing it home from south of the border and her take is along the lines of, "I can't believe it's in the Envoy family" ... in a very good way.

As compared to the Envoy:
Power - way more than one reasonably needs but totally intoxicating
Handling - firm ride but handles accordingly ... much more solid in cross winds
AWD - love it ... cleared the snow off the roof with the gas instead of the brake. I absolutely hate the "Almost on demand" system in the 4wd's
Brakes - really nice firm pedal
Seats - much better, and the suede insets really do grip
General ergonomics - not much different
Interior styling - I like the plain black better than the fake woodgrain, but I can see where the "tupperware" comments come from

Soundtrack - the best late model factory V8 exhaust I have experienced

Dislikes:
- they've messed with some of the functions in the DIC. No instantaneous fuel economy ... automatic locking can't be turned off .. options are "lock with speed" and "lock in gear"
- applicable to all GMT-360's; I don't like how they crimp the passenger footwell and how the back seats fold.

I know that fuel economy is going to be bad ... we got around 16 mpg according to the computer on a fairly lazy 60 - 65 MPH ride home ... but I knew that going in.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how it will tow the 1LE on a trailer.

So far it's put almost as big a smile on my face as there was when I took delivery of the Camaro SS.

I still cant decide. Only 2 more months untill the boat comes out hibernation.

Thats my biggest problem. The SS's are so rare right now. There are none sitting around on lots around here, you have to claim one long before it shows up at the dealer. That means no test drives.

i think a lot of that will depend on the size of your boat/family. personally, i would go with a tahoe.

how fast is that SS? do you think its as fast as all the magazines are saying. i saw one the other day on the road...beautiful.

Have you had a chance to get underneath and check that front (passenger's side) tire's clearance to see if you'll have rub issues?

I thought the Envoy with the 270/275 I6 and 4.10's was "fast enough" for anything I needed it for .... but it sounded awful. The SS is crazy fast .... unless all you do is drag race .... in which case there is no such thing as fast enough ... and sounds great ... even cruising.

Not yet. I'll probably take a look at it over the weekend.

Passenger and driver are the same. Can't get a finger between the spindle?? and tire and the edge of the spindle is very sharp. Not sure how the tire to get there to get shredded though. I'm going to have to watch the NASCAR suspension cam more carefully. I'll probably put a grinder to the sharp edge as a cautionary measure.
