Opel GT unveiled at Geneva
Re: Opel GT unveiled at Geneva
okay what about Caddy Escalade and Avalanche, or GMC anything and the Chevy versions..Thats just GM..EVERY car company that has two or more devisions do it more than you think.. Fox body Mustang and Mercury Capri/ and Cougar before that with the 60's stangs.
Toyota and Lexus..just a diffrent badge here..heck the K cars were notorious for it in the 80's...
But the Saturn Opel thing works fine..two diffrent companies in two diffrent areas of the world..same as GTO..they dont sell Pontiac down in Aus. And Holden made Monaros before GTO so we just benifited from the platform.

Question for people smarter than me
Does the fact were exporting the Opel GT open the door to import the Astra for Saturn without too much resistence from the UAW ?

The Aussies have a similar Astra, and it's a nice car. My sister's driving around the Holden Astra hatchback..really nice little thing, something I would buy for my daughter when she is ready to drive, which is pretty soon.....
Im trying to keep up best I can on the Opel/Saturn connection because a desprately want the opportunity to buy a euro-spec Astra VXR in the states ....fingers and toes are crossed

I wish GM applied this kind of product management philosophy to ALL their products. They're doing these Kappa cars right. I love it.
1. Pontiac Solstice looks nothing like Saturn Sky, both sold in the same market.
2. Saturn Sky looks exactly like Opel GT, each sold in markets disjoint from each other.
In other words, a Satrun Sky shopper will never know about the Opel GT and vise versa.
I mean, this is the perfect example of how platform sharing and badge engineering is done. Great job GM!

also if you look at the old Opel concept it ends up looking very little like the Sky/GT in either design or proportions. only the sharp lines as a theme are in common. in other words, Opel got a rebadge of the Saturn this time and not the other way around.
Another thought: I think GM is going to sell a BOATLOAD (literally) of these in Europe. How does this play in with their production goals for the 3 cars? I mean the Solstice and Sky could easily grab 60k/year combined plus another 20k/year for the GT in Europe would be no problem. So, 80k/year. Does that sound right?

80K build for this car..yea sounds great..and not to out of reach.. This is the type of car that has mass apeal to alot of the world..Heck bring Vauxhaul into it with the Solstice rebadged..
