old models

why is it that every one wants all of the old models reincarnated, they already did a few like the gt40 and every one wants the chevelles, camaros, and what not to be brought back...why doesn't anyone just want a nice new sports car?

Because we can't find any existing ones that are clean enough to buy in the first place?

Besides... you can always buy an old Camaro and drop in a new crate motor... but if you could buy a NEW retro looking Camaro, complete with a modern drivetrain, suspension, safety features and factory warranty!!!

That just about says it all.

I think he means why don't we want just any new sports car, instead of using old names. It's an interesting (and fair) question I guess. However when you have a nameplate with the recognition, following and history of Camaro you'd be foolish not to use it in some way.

"The past would be a fun place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there."

Pre-packaged nostalgia sells, pure and simple. Considering how bad cars were between the late '70s and early '90s, its no wonder that enthusiasts look back towards the more distant past.

i am just suggesting that a newer better car should be built (different name) cause i am some what sure that when they bring back all of these cars they will ruin the once good (1960 through early 70s) reputations and they wont have anything to rely on. you have to remember companies kept coming out with cars like the gtx, chevelle, camaro, charger, etc. to gain recognition, and since they are, in my opinion bound to destroy once legends, it kinda makes me mad

Pardon me, but most of the names from the "good old days" were "ruined" long ago. After the vaunted Charger name was applied to a downmarket Chrysler Cordoba, it was used on a 2.2liter hatchback based on the Omni/Horizon platform. Even the mid-seventies Chevelles were sad reminders of the late 60s models.

If an old name sells new cars, so much the better.
