i don't know how you make that conclusion just form the octane rating. our gas is the most expensive because the refinement process is more complex, but it's the cleanest burning in the world. depending on how you look at it, you could say we have the best gasoline.

Is that what Guvernar of Caaalifoooornia told you?

Ya know since moving here to Cali my car runs about the same. Its yet to be really hot so the knocking has yet to come up but I had a check engine light come on and upon check the o2 sensors were good but the dealer concluded the passenger side cat was bad. I wonder if after almost 2 years of solid 93-94 octane MI gas to come out here to this 91 CA gas might have upset somthing!

What confuses me is why is Houston Texas, with all it's open space, now ranking worse than LA?

Lots & lots of them to the east of us in Pasadena.

Stinkadena to the natives !

Ticks me off that they penalize the cars, and yet many of these plants are grandfathered in in terms of emission standards.

The theory , though, is that the smell is the
smell of money !

Actually not just at WOT. There is difference in power even at 3/4, especially on a hot day.
You don't have to suffer a performance reduction at anything except WOT. At any other throttle setting all you have to do is press the gas pedal down a bit further to compensate for the decreased power. Of course, that option isn't available if you're already at WOT.
