I think you're right .

The Z28 could become the bare-bones performance model with live axle and have the same engine thats in the SS but it wouldnt be released until a year or two after the Camaro is launched.

The Corvette Z06 could become a bare-bones performance model as well and have the same engine thats in the Stingray Corvette.

OK but, why would Z/28 have a live axle if it's the road racer?

The Z28 would be live-axle because dragracers want it that way.

The SS would be the handling/performance king of the Camaro line-up to compete against the Mustang Cobra.

Am i the only one that thinks those prices are a bit expensive, even with inflation? i would hope a base Camaro does not cost 30 grand, or anywhere near that. It should at most be 20-23 grand imo. Seriously, they would sell like mad if they were there.and i think Z28 should be 25-27 (not as many options), and SS should be like 28-32

NAH, make the SS the drag racer and the Z28 the road racer. thats what it was made for in the first place! Let the SS have the live rear axle.............

I agree that those prices might seem high but in reality is about right.

Checkout this inflation calculator that someone posted on a previous thread http://www.cjr.org/resources/inflater.asp (its great!)

A loaded Z28 sold for around $25,000 in 1994 and in 2002 dollars thats equals out to be around $30,000. Camaro prices were actually deflationary (or at least stagflationary) during the later half of their product cycle.

Do you really think GM will offer this car with a optional Live-Axel??

I just can't see it happening..

Then tell the drag racers to buy something else. The Z28 road racing package should come with a worthful rear suspension that's, oh, say, designed for road racing.

Maybe the Z28 would come with the live-rear-axle as standard but have an IRS as one of the few options for all ya road racers.

If the Z/28 comes with a live rear axle.....then the SS should come with a diesel.

I agree with those for the most part. Save I wouldnt want the Z/28s to only be availiable in Manuals. If I bought a new one I would probably buy a T-56 because they are more fun to drive on the street. But autos have their uses. Especially to drag racers.

The '05 Corvette will have 425hp and neighborhood of 500hp in Z06 for '06. The Z06 name will not be thrown out for '07 and should be a capable Viper-competitor without escalating into the $60-70k range.

A Camaro being 3 model years away seems like wishful thinking, especially given there is neither confirmation nor a single detail to be had about it.
