No more Porsche 911
No more Porsche 911
I guess that it was bound to happen sooner or later.http://info.detnews.com/autosinsider...x.cfm?id=10955
I don't think they'll ditch the 911 name. It's been around since 1963 and has a really storied history.
The current 911 is also called 996. So it makes sense that the next 911 is called the 997. I think it's just be used to designate the generation of 911's, and not a replacement name all together. Kind of like BMW M's E34, E36, E39 designations for their M cars or Fords fox, Sn95, sn97 designation for the Mustang.

Correct. Much like the Corvette's C5 and C6 designations, the "997" is just the designation for the generation. The last 911 bodystyle was 996 and before that was 993, then 965, etc. I would have figured the new generation of 911 would be designated type "999" if they were to continue with the counting by 3's sequence.
