Another ignorant comment from someone who obviously doesn't even understand the heritage of the original GTO.

Yeah because the new GTO is the best performing GTO ever made? Don't be retarded. It was the plan from the beginning to have 06 be the last GTO built on this platform.

Re: No more GTO?

Not to mention there is already a prominent thread right near the top of this forum dealing with this issue.

And no, it does not give "real" Tempests (oops, I mean GTOs) a bad name. Get a clue.

Re: No more GTO?

thats a shame that they are discontinuing the gto, I really didnt like the car when it first came out, but then they started to get more styling ques and performance, now i really like it, its kinda like a sleeper, grand am ish like with 400hp, just like all the prior muscle cars were.and they started to put them in NHRA, drifting and sportscars series, and winning everything. mabe they will now bring back the trans am firebird....hopefully

Re: No more GTO?

sorry, just my opinion.

they retired the name in the 70's, it should have stayed retired. GM could have thought up a new name for their Australian hybrid.

Same thing with all the retro looking cars, shows a lack of imagination and creativity.

and I actually posted this in the lounge, so I was not aware of an existing post on the subject.

Giving GTO a bad name? Get a clue.

GTO has always been a sleeper based on a run of the mill mid size Pontiac thatgrand parents drove. The only exceptions were the short-lived GTO "Judge" (which failed miserably in the marketplace) and the '75 Ventura based model, which barely filled out 1974.

The new GTO is without a doubt the best GTO ever made, and is every bit what GTO was in it's heyday. The only people who say otherwise are people who haven't checked them out.

Re: No more GTO?

While I have worked in 2 Gm Pontiac dealerships the in the last 2.5 years, I can't say more than a handful of guys actually liked the new GTO. As far as styling goes. Performance wise, we all love it. Go Drive a stick GTO and you'll change your mind on thinking the new GTO is giving the classics a bad name.

Re: No more GTO?

Thanks. Look who is to say what the GTO would have looked like if it never left production. Would it look like it does now? Would it look like a 69 GTO? I submit for your review that if the GTO never left production it would in fact look very similiar to what we have today. I love mine.

Take a look at a 1970 GP and a 2004 GP. Not even close.

So who is to say what it should look like. Even diehard old school GTO guys can't even tell you what it should look like.
