No Cobalt SS sedan for 2010
I love all the people who make themselves look stupid trying to comment on a car when it's obvious they know nothing about it. Fact is the Cobalt SS sedan or coupe both deserve the SS name they are within 40lb's of each other and run the same times and both can reach over 150mph. Put them on a road course with a brand new SS Camaro and see if you can pull away from one. The Camaro beat it around the Nurinburg by 1-2 seconds, if that doesn't impress you I don't know what will. As for Impala SS's I see them everywhere, check the autotrader website and there are 50 within 100 miles for sale used, run one of the new ones against the 90's model and see who's in front by a wide margin. Old Impala's could barely get over 140mph, new ones go 156mph. Point is these cars are just as fast as the hallowed SS cars of the 60's if not faster and in the case of the cobalt will embarrass them in the handling dept.
On a race tack yes, straight line(newer Impala SS's) they would be about even all the way to top speed. Impala might actually get there a bit faster but not entirely sure, would be close though.
Jeez, what a tough crowd commenting on Autoblog.
Is there any word on the Cruze getting the SS treatment? it'd be a real shame to let the SS Cobalt die off without a replacement that at least matched its performance.

With two kids myself, I was looking at one at the local dealership a while back but it was nearly $27,000. The resale hit on a new one would probably be gigantic. I bet used ones will be going for under 20k in the near future.
What not??? It is one of the fastest sedans ever built for Chevrolet. It is faster than the LT1 1994-1996 Impala SS and faster than any Chevy sedan from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's ,90's. The only thing faster than a Cobalt SS is the LS4 V8 powered Impala SS.

I disagree. If I were in the market for a Cobalt SS - I'd prefer the sedan to the coupe.
Yeah they are going for under $20k with 100 miles on them, saw one last week for $18k with 3k miles on it. Since the dealerships don't want to sell them I'll probably save a few thousand and get one with under 5k miles for $5K-$6K less than the dealership.
Yeah, that's kind of what I figured. Great used car value if you don't have to take the initial depreciation hit.
If they don't offer a Cruze SS, they are dropping the ball! My current plan is to buy a Camaro SS and then a 4-door sports sedan for a daily driver 18-24 months later. Cruze would be at the top of the list if they offer an "SS" version.

^^^ That was a Cruze SS? Looks like a normal Cruze to me, but I do see some big brakes on it, and perhaps different wheels?
Anyway, I thought I read on a Cobalt forum that the SS was done after '09, both sedan AND coupe...
I wonder if it'll be kinda cool to have one of these 20-30 years from now, kinda like a Grand National (or is GNX more appropriate?) vs a Regal from the 80s
