Why? Nissan has never laid off an employee...what is supposed to be wrong with saying so?

 

So you're telling me that those 1,600 people were not employees of Nissan?

 

What 1,600 people...care to be specific or cite a news source?

Surely you aren't talking about those taking voluntary early retirement or voluntary buyouts are you and equating that with a layoff?

A moment ago you were talking about Mississippi...Spain doesn't have a lot of impact in Mississippi.

I haven’t been around since the beginning but people who have been have told me (and I have no reason to doubt them nor have I ever found any conflicting data), that Nissan in North America has never laid off employees…it’s fired some, offered buyouts/early retirement, etc. but there has never been a layoff.

What will happen in the future I don’t know nor does anyone else…if layoffs have to happen than they have to happen but a layoff would be a tool of last choice; not first choice.

And as I said in another thread recently, EVERYBODY’S JOB IS TEMPORARY…anyone who doesn’t believe that and doesn’t work every day as if they do believe are a pink slip looking for a place to happen.

 

Guys, NAIAS (Detroit) is definitely losing a lot of its luster, and it isn't just because of the economy. Cobo Hall is in serious need of renovation/expansion and the City of Detroit hasn't been able to come up with a working plan to do so. Chicago and LA have the convention space that Detroit could only dream about.

 

I said Nissan plant in Jackson. You said Nissan, but never specified Mississippi. I posted a link refuting your claim that "Nissan has never laid anyone off." Are you a manager there or something? Did you get your [DELETED] hurt?

 

Apparently he quickly amended his statement to be "Nissan North America." Robert works for Nissan, so it isn't unexpected for him to get defensive.

 

I don't really have a lot to do with Nissan on other continents and certainly the son of your "guy" in Mississippi doesn't need to worry a whole lot about what's happening in Spain either.

Spain in particular has seen a lot of companies laying off employees, both automotive and otherwise as to why Spain is seeing the brunt of that, I don't know...I've only been to Spain a few times and that was as a tourist and quite a long time ago!

All of which has zero to do with the subject of the thread.

Ok, you need to specify your statement again because apparantly you say "Spain" and mean "Spain Nissan only" and then you say "US" when you mean "US Nissan only."

The US as a whole has seen hundreds of thousands of layoffs across almost every industry. If you're proud of the fact that your little plant hasn't done that, then fine, but don't try to refute facts by being vague and then changing your statements when you're called out.

 

You started this merry-go-round by claiming that you “knew” that Nissan’s Mississippi plant had/would have layoffs…

When I questioned you about how you "knew" that, you admitted that your “source” was the son of some guy you knew and admitted they may not be layoffs he was talking about at al; just ambiguous "cutbacks"…

Then you take this rabbit trail through Spain...

And frankly, I missed the “link”; consequently, I didn’t know we had shifted 10,000 miles to the east of Mississippi and was now talking about Spain. Sorry I missed it but in the future, if you are going to take such long trips you might want to provide a map (and thanks for taking the thread into the gutter with your school-boy vulgarity...that really adds a lot of creditability to your statements).

Now you seem to want to talk about all the layoffs in the U.S. and deride me for being proud of my employer…

When you decide what country, company and continent you want to have a conversation about; let me know but I've got to say, trying to have a conversation with you reminds me of trying to talk to my ex-wife...it gives me a headache.

 

Cobo Hall may need a renovation and expansion but the LA Convention Center isn't much better. Total space may be more but it's chopped up into two sections that require a 300yr walk.
However, just on location alone LA show in November is a much better event for the world press to visit than Detroit in Jan.
