Man I love the 70 mustangs, IMO the high water mark in styling, but give me a Mach with a 428, shaker and 4 speed spit stiff.

Re: Next generation Mach1 alive

What happened to the Boss? Wasn't Ford supposed to create this model alnog side the other special additions?

What would the n/a 5.4 in this application be rated at?

I thought the rumors were of the old (03-04) Cobra's motor going into the Mach with a live axle?

There are some '05 "Boss 302" mustangs running around here. I wonder how they did it?

I bet it's just a graphics package though.

Judging from what i've seen....Ford factory special edition stangs are not simple graphic packages. Case in point: 93+ Cobra, 93/95/00 Cobra R, 01 Bullitt, 03/04 Mach1.

From what we have seen i think we can realistically expect a specifically tuned engine, suspension, interior, wheels, and exterior for such model. There should be no mistaking it for a stickered up GT.

I hope we see a 390hp S/c'd 4.6 from the previous Cobra's under its hood. That would be sweet, and a cheaper more affordable alternative to the 40k GT500. We already know how potent and powerful it is in the 03/04 Cobra's. If not the S/c'd 4.6, then i would like to see a N/A 390hp 5.4L Dohc (like the one used in the Ausi Ford Falcon GT).

If Ford is going to do it justice, they will give it something north of 350hp. Preferably closer to 400hp.

It should definitely have the 5.4 N/A at the very least. Personally, I'd like to see the blown 5.4 in it.

Wasn't the Mach 1 supposed to be brought back as a limited run vehicle? What happened? There are, what, 17,000 03/04 Mach 1's running around.

Didn't Roush also have considerable contribution to the GT's chassis?

Guy TLC's rides did a good episode all about Roush industries and their conversions of the Roush Mustang with a little about the F150 and Focus thrown in for good measure.

You should check it out it seems as though if he wanted to he could be a truely modern coachbuilder.

It would not take a lot to bump the current 3 valve 4.6 up to 350 hp, but I can see them going back to the 4.6 DOHC. It all depends on the horsepower goals. If they take the middle of the road, that would be around 375 hp.

Re: Next generation Mach1 alive

Quick note...

Ford doles out a lot of their specialized product development to their aftermarket tuners.

In general (meaning just that - GENERAL...), Roush is noted for his engine and drivetrain development. The man and his group are wizards in the engine bay, and their experience goes from marine racing to airplanes to Trans-Am turbos to Cosworths to Nascar and everything in between.

Dario Orlando (co-owner of Steeda Autosports) was handed the task of tweaking on the '05 Showcars and the "Q" showcar. They have excellent body panel and fiberglass facilities at their disposal, and they are in-tune with the fads like popular wheels, brakes, and styling trends.

Steve Saleen was instrumental in development of the chassis and assembly techniques in the GT. His 20 years of Mustang-building for the public has given him an advantage in assembly, reassembly, and customized "niche-line" assembly techniques. He is often tapped for assembly guidance and development of unique bodywork, chassis, or other unique parts. His company was actually subcontracted to assemble the GT for Ford.

I agree with guionM that Roush is NOT being tapped to develop the car or bodywork... but I could certainly see Roush doing engine/drivetrain development on the next performance variant. [snicker][/snicker]

One last comment... there is no speculation whatsoever about the upcoming special editions. Yours truely has posted several times almost a year ago about the units coming, and even quoted Hau Thai-Tang naming a few of them. Good times ahead.

Hey Proud, nice to see you back! I hope the retooling ( I believe that is what it was ) went well. If I remember our previous conversation's, you were saying that the Bullitt edition was next up? Any idea on powertrain? Also, what do you think of the Camaro clay?

I only complain cause I don't like scrolling to the right when I read the boards. Extreme laziness.

Maybe they should just drop an LS2 in it

Thanks. I have seen the world in the last 4 months... I now want to see my basement (read cars and hobbies) and family for a while. Got 10 days of vacation to burn before Jan 1 too.
Next big trip has me heading to China to install new equipment in February. We are building a new plant north of Shanghai to support China's growth locally. $120million-worth. I will be there for about 3 weeks in February to supervise equipment installation, and again in late March for production startup.

All of my indications last year were that the Bullitt was likely to be the first out of the gate for two reasons...
1) there is a VERY loyal following for that car and it was executed flawlessly the first time around - good grounds to build from.
2) there was serious talk about a remake of the original Bullitt movie on the heels of the successful "Gone in 60-Seconds". Steve McQueen's son Chad was contacted about playing in the movie himself, but turned down the offer. He is more interested in producing/consulting on the movie. He has been in other movies (Karate Kid for one) but recently gave up acting for driving race cars.

In this old Press Release you can see who was to play Frank Bullitt.
"CHAD McQUEEN - the 50-year-old son of late Steve - is expected to act as co-producer on the project."
Based on the schedule (after Troy and Oceans 11 which are both out now), it would appear that Bullitt would be coming soon, eh? Like next summer, maybe?

If you guys are interested, do a search on the web for "Bullitt Remake" and you'll have plenty to read about. You can make your own mind up from that.

As for engine/drivetrain... look for an n/a 5.4.... Maybe.... If I were to guess... with 350-360 hp... 3.55 live axle... 17's... and a partridge in a pear tree...
