(Dearborn, Michigan) StangsUnleashed.com - A reliable source told StangsUnleshed.com that Roush is working on the next-generation Mach1. Prototype models already exist at a Roush facility in Michigan.
As far as a production model S197 Mach1 goes, another Mustang variant (not the California Special or GT500) is also in the works. Wheter we'll see that variant or the Mach1 first depends on economic conditions.
StangsUnleashed will make more information available next week

Re: Next generation Mach1 alive
I know the Mach1 is alive, but I don't know what engine differences it's going to have.
Knowing Ford the way I think I do, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Ford slips a 5.4 quad cam into the next Mach 1 instead of a version of the 4.6. Given the high sales tempo of the new Mustang, and the fairly low sales numbers of the last Mach 1 (around 7-8K annually), I'd be pretty certain of it.
Its being done by Ford Performance Division, so I'm skeptical about rumors of Roush involvement.
Ford Mustang lives on aftermarket involvement, so it's possible Roush may have a couple of copies so his company can develop aftermarket parts (Mach 1's purpose is drag racing), but I very seriously doubt he's developing it for Ford.

Anybody remember the twin turbo 351 anniversery foxbody Roush did for Ford?? It was a concept car that made the rounds for a while 400hp IIRC.
Personally I'd rather see a 5.4 VVT 3v rather than another iteration of the 4v, those 3v heads are really nice as far as a Ford cylinderhead goes.
or better yet, anybody remeber the 5.8 4v V10 mustang the Ford boys had been toying with!
it was a 4.6 with two cylinders added. Man thye've already got 3v V10 VVT heads, just need to make that short deck aluminum V10 block! tune it to run on premium fuel and it would be a 400hp contender

I thought there was talk a few years back of the BOSS 302 on the Sn95.
Well if they can destroke the 5.4L--they shoud do it.
Re: Next generation Mach1 alive
the 5.0 cammer is a mod motor, but it doesnt pass some Ford durability test (I assume a longevity test as it relates to emmisions or the like) which to my understanding is related to the very thin bore walls used to help achieve the 5.0 displacment. As for destroking a 5.4 I beleive a practical connecting rod length is a limiting factor. Really what they'd need to do is make a mid deck height motor in between the 4.6 and 5.4 deck heights. However it is infinitely more practical to dispense with the whole Boss 302 nostalgia and just gun for a Boss 330 and be done with it. Atleast though a Boss 351 with a 5.8 DOHC V10 did see the light of day as an engine test bed (was a killer looking SN95 car featuring a silver paint job, low key Boss 351 decals and some silver painted 18 Saleen wheels - all business)
The only boss I am aware of (besides that killer Boss 351) was the Boss Shinoda cars which for the most part consisted of graphics and plastic doodads.

My buddy has a restored Grabber Orange '70 Boss 302. Very cool Car!
Looks just like this except without the hood scoop:
