For the 4252718242445167828th time - the 5.5L bore stroke combo is only so the C6R can meet racing rules.

Do you think the base Vette will get a 5.3L this time around?

My guess would be 6.2L.

Yeah I remember reading that about the mystical 5.5L from you about that many times - literally.

My guess is that the next Corvette will see a modest bump in HP across the range, but the big news will be in weight reduction and fuel economy.

So are we looking at just one engine for the Corvette? Is there not going to be a C7 Z06 or ZR1? 5.3/5.5 for the base and 500HP 6.2L for a lighter Z06 would seem perfect.

I don't see why there wouldn't at least be a Z06, but I'm sure it's too early to say.

Just out of curiosity why is it assumed that the Gen V motors will be drastically reduced in displacement (if at all)?

Because people are assuming they need to reduce displacement to get better fuel efficiency and satisfy CAFE requirements.

BTW, I agree with Charlie, the 5.5L displacement is a racing restriction. But then again, racing restrictions did give birth to the Z/28.

I think that there will be lots of Gen V smallblock versions, for both cars and trucks. From mild to wild....

A part of me really could appreciate a shorter stroke, large bore, high compression, free revving, 5.5 in a new, lighter, smaller Z/28.

The higher fuel economy will be achieved with direct injection , a more efficient valvetrain , transmissions and weight reduction while not going up much on the actual power outputs . Pretty certain your seeing the winding down of the big number HP wars as we speak . More so pertaining to the next gens , like the next Corvette or Camaro or Mustang . Chevy has already said they have no intentions of going any higher with the ZR1 . Imagine if the same LS9 was in a ZR1 that weighed what a Z06 weighs . Or a 3000-3100 lb base vette with 440 or hp .

I think the 5.3 displacement will stay where its at now ...trucks .

Oh I know. I'm just not so sure I buy that.

Honestly I think the increasing price of entry into V8 cars is going to take care of the CAFE issues moreso than getting wild fuel economy numbers will.

You can't count the first generation, and if you do, you have to count it as one of the generations that got a new engine with the debut of that generation. So it's really 2 out of the last 2 and 3 out of 6 overall. And from the sound of things, it's going to be 3 out of the last 3 and 4 out of 7.

My point lost most of its steam when it was pointed out that the C5 debuted with the Gen 3 small block, so I don't think it's even worth disputing/discussing the 1st generation
