Question New Z06 delivery delay?

Picked this off the Chicago region Autocross board. I haven't had time to research it since I'm headed to a trade show. Any insiders have any info?

"Just a passing note to everyone who is interested in the ongoing activities of the new Z06.

As of yesterday, all Z06's that have been produced are still at Bowling Green and deliveries of these models is now said to take place in the 4the quarter
sometime.

Our contacts in Detroit have no explanation of why this delay is happening at this time.

If you have a new Z06 on order, you may want to contact your dealer for an update on their delivery schedule.

Heard from people in California that the purchase prices of the new Z06 are ranging from 90k to 100k. Locally, here in the Atlanta area, the Z06 is selling
between 78k to 85k. Spoke with three dealers in Florida who are adding between 8k to 10k above sticker.

All this "over-pricing" reminds me of what took place back in 1989 with the ZR1. That car never lived up to the manufacturer's hype with regards to performance. I sure hope that the new Z06 does not follow this path."

Re: New Z06 delivery delay?

So people who had one on pre-order I assume are gaurenteed to pay no more than sticker? Wonder how long the markups will last.

Thing that sucks about paying any markup to be 'one of the first' is that the extra money you paid is literally 100% down the drain.

You think 'oh it's a 70k dollar car, so what's another 10 grand to get my dream car?'. Well consider that in a year or so it'll probably be worth 60 grand or whatever. That's whether you paid 70k or 80k.

So in one scenario you've lost 10 grand to depreciation and in the other scenario you've lost 20 grand. That's twice as much lost on the front end first year of ownership.

If you can pay 80 grand for a car, you dont care if its worth 30 grand less in 5 years. You buy it because you want it and thats all.

I've got plenty of people in my family that COULD afford an 80 grand car without a problem, but they would not pay 10 grand extra that would go 100% down the drain as soon as it was driven off the lot just because that's a waste of money.

I don't know what you think about 'rich' people, but most of them are rich because they see the value in a dollar, much less 10 grand. Granted there are some that are more careless, but those are usually either 'old money' (inhereted their wealth', or ridiculously wealthy to where 10 grand just doesn't matter enough to stand in the way of what they want.

If I had the money I WOULD have one, PERIOD. If I could afford the $70K be sure that I could afford to spend more. BTW I think a Museum delivery would be right up my alley being as I live like 1 hour 45 min from the museum's doors, and I would be glad to pay extra for that also.

C'mon Threxx just say it, you know you want to. The new Z06 won't hold its resale value like a Toyota would. I knew there was a reason it sucked.

for once, i don't think thats it...

Threxx has said he wanted a Vette...maybe he's just being optimistic that they'll depreciate alot when he has the cash to get one....

or he's just bitter he can't get one now

No, actually Vettes hold their value very well. I just said that dealer markup over sticker price is terrible to pay IMO because it contributes NOTHING to the resale value of the car unless the car retains its initial popularity indefinitely or at least until you decide to sell it.

I wouldn't pay markup like that on ANY brand of car, period - I'd just wait until the supply met demand unless I was filthy filthy rich.

I think most people here know I love the new Z06 and hope to get one some day, so yeah I guess I hope it does decpreciate a lot so I can afford one sooner than later, but please don't just put words in my mouth.

I understand your point, and I was really just "kind of" ribbing you, and I'd say that any dealer markup is terrible to pay, on any car. I actually think these Z06s are going to hold their residual values quite nicely...I know this isn't the most scientific of observations but look how many just on this site have claimed they'd be interested in buying one used in a few years...the 427 engine is special and will be sought after down the road.

A guy here at work has one on order, well its been built, its one of the ones sitting. He paid sticker for it and not a penny more. But he had a little connection with the GM of the dealership.

Yeah, I would imagine that if they were marking up Bugatti Veyrons $15k, I don't think it is much of a stretch to think a future owner is going to give even part of a crap about it. Hell, some of the options on the car probably cost $15k.

Re: New Z06 delivery delay?

R.P. told us that the new Z06s were released for delivery on Fri. (Sept.16). While staying at the Continental Inn in Bowling Green (next to the plant) this past weekend for the F-body reunion, we saw a transport carrying all Z06s coming out of the road from the plant onto the highway.

Best regardSS,

Elie
