Good to see it finally get a real v8. 10,000 tow rating is pretty good too.
I really wasn't expecting this from Toyota. This is by far their best effort at making a REAL legitimate full sized truck. It's not enough to win me over from the Big3, but it looks like a solid effort on Toyota's part.

Now this truck comes out with possibly a class-leading tow capacity and is a true full size all around and now people start nit-picking that the dash looks goofy and the rear leg room might be cramped.

It isnt that close to being a 50/50 swing of opinion on the interior. So far its "a common response" that the dash is ugly.
Btw: That truck reminds me of those pug-nosed dogs. The dogs are kinda cute in their own way though.
Re: New Tundra unveiled at Chicago.
Toyota's have never sold on looks. They have sold a swag of car/trucks based on specifications, value and the badge (dependability). The 5.7L engine with 6-speed auto sounds the goods but I don't know if truck owners look beyond the modern-tech... and instead buy trucks that can do the job.
Silverado or Tundra? For some, it's still an easy choice.

The exterior looks OK, doesn't blow me away but it's not bad. The dash design is distracting and unbalanced.
I think GM and Ford are the leaders in interior stlying judging by the F150 and the new Tahoe. Chysler needs to improve their interiors, I really like the Ram but the interior is nothing but a sea of monotonic gray plastic.

I don't like it...
That side window for the rear seats is horrid! and those tail lights... woah, Nasty!
Yup, I think if the Silverado comes out looking like I think it will Toyota is going to have a hard time competing. Except however for all of those people who are now brainwashed into thinking that the Japanese vehicles are still far superior to American companies and for those people you're not gonna win them anyway.

Most of that has changed now, so now people are focusing on the interior's looks and perceived quality. Something I was flat out ridiculed by countless members here for doing when I mentioned I think the GMT-800 truck's interiors seemed cheap to me.
"It's a truck damnit, if you want a froo-froo nice looking and nice feeling interior, go buy something else" is more or less what I was told.
Not that I disagree that this interior looks odd (though it definitely doesn't look cheap for a truck). I won't hesitate to say that. But the amazing shift in comments from "capabilities is all that matters... I could care less if the interior is ugly, cheap, or utilitarian as long as it gets the job done".
Re: New Tundra unveiled at Chicago.
So are people sure that the current 4.3l V6 will be retired? I thought that GM might try to keep it to save money. It's roughly equal to Dodge's 3.7l, though a much older design.

You know, all the talk we have been hearing about the new Tundra being a BIG threat to the US truck market would lead you to believe that this would be the greatest truck on earth, and I just don't see it. The interior looks weird and certainly no better than any other new truck in this segment. The biggest surprise for me is how weak these engines are. They are going to be lagging from the get go, especially when the new Silverado hits the market. I think that the Tundra will see very modest sustained sales, I don't think it will be a huge hit.

I believe this 5.7L V8 is still based on the old (but solid) UZ architecture, thus its relatively weak power per displacement.
I'm not saying that they will offer any stronger motors, but I'm just saying with Toyota the motor in an 'all new' model is very often not the motor it ends up with a year or two later.
Ford's F150 5.4L V8 is making 300hp, Silverado's GMT900 5.3L V8 is making 320. Are those going to continue to be the most powerful non-sport model offerings in their half tons for now? If so, 300hp from this Toyota's 5.7, while not impressive, isn't exactly non competetive, either.
