I saw a V8 Lexus a few months ago, it was so darn quiet. I don't remember what it was exactly... At least I think it was a V8, thats what my ricer friends said anyways. They were all excited, waiting to hear it start up and leave the parking lot... but, as I predicted, it sounded quiet, definitely not a domestic V8 sound...

The key to the MKIV Supra's power potential was the I6, not sure if a V6 or V8 would even be as good...

Its interesting though, and should show GM, again, the need for 5th gen F-bodies... Supra, 350Z, Skyline, WRX, EVO, RX8, Cobra, Charger, etc.

I read in Car and Driver that the base will be a V6 and the top model a V8 but they said the prices will be 40-45k, so it will be competing with the Corvette still. The base model is said to be competing with the 350Z and will be in the 30's. Also they said the power rating of the top model will be about 350 hp. I don't know about you guys, but when this hits the market, the C6 Vette will just blow it out of the water. I am interested to see if they actually do go the V8 route. We'll see.

I dont know... I think I would rather have a 97 supra over a 02 Vette... its just personal preference I guess because I find supras more appealing to me than the corvette, and if they do the new supra right, I would definatly be interested. So when the new supras come out, I guess Ill be getting the V6, because payments would kill me on a V8... but as far as the #s go, it sounds like the C6 is supposed to woop even the exotic cars(vipers etc) as far as performance goes.

the 6 in the IS300 is a 3.0L inline 6 (hance the IS and the 300 in the name, to compete directly with BMW). either you're confusing the info or you're getting it from a confused source.

If its a V6, it will most likely be based off of the staid 3.0L V6 found in countless Camry's and ES300s.

Just looked at the article again, it will be based off ES 300's, and it's a V6.

Sorry for the confusion.

All supras those years were I6.

I don't think Toyota has ever made a V12, for a supra or any car.

Actually, I think they did - but only for some home market luxury cars.

I would have a hard time believing a V12 would fit in that engine bay.

If a 6 did, then it's possible a 12 would, though I don't believe Toyota made them for Supra.

i think the supras strong point is the forged internals more than being inline. I understand the inline helps but Buick guys have been doing it with a v-6 since 86. Add forged internals into the Buick and its a 9's capable motor.

Here's a couple possible pix:

http://www.toyota-supra.com/toyota_supra_news.htm

http://www.my350z.com/japan/may29/rx7supra.jpg

(second link actually has both an RX7 and a Supra pix)

I believe the second link is a more realistic rendering from what I have read lately. Regardless, I'm not keen on either of the front ends. The first one looks too much like the Celica (actually I like the looks of the Celica GT, but think the Supra should not be very similar). The second one has lame headlights... reminds me of a person's face while eating a lemon. However, I like the rear end and quarters on the second pix.

Sadly, it does not appear Toyota has chosen to innovate regarding rear seat access (granted I'm assuming a lot just from a couple pix). I'm more impressed with the layout of the Mazda RX8.

A new Supra will no doubt have world-class Toyota quality, if made. But starting at $30k or so, will it be "affordable"? And it is neither a pony car nor a muscle car IMHO, really more of a sports car like a Corvette. But put up against a C5 Z06 or the C6, I'd wager it will come up short. So what's the point?

Speakign of Toyotas in R&T. There should also be the article about Toyota's upcomign "exotic" car.

It will have a V10 mid engine, based on their F1 car's engine. It will have an estimated cost of $150K

I saw the picture, and it looks SWEET. If I had $150K I would get one.
