New Silverado Wins Car & Driver Test (Apr. 07)
A 4s delay to PE mode would have an impact on torque, definitely. An AFR of 12.5 (mixture at which max torque is attained) is definitely more favorable for performance than an AFR of 14.63 (Stoich - most efficient burn rate at part throttle). A richer mixture implies more timing could be had. More timing equates to more torque... I can see that GM's tuning of the V8 is limp, at best.
At least the people in this thread are taking the news of a favorable C&D test fairly well (much better than in the recent Z06 thread)
Do you actually think that the engine would last 4 seconds at WOT if it wasn't receiving enrichment? I guarantee that there's a lot more going on than just a delay in providing PE - since this engine has ETC, it's a lot easier (and safer) to restrict power by simply keeping the throttle partially shut.

A 4s delay on PE mode can definitely be felt in acceleration... it almost sounds dangerous?
I do wish GM would get a little more agressive with the tune. I can't imagine fuel economy would be hurt that bad. Then again, if you can market the truck as having 367 HP and getting 20 mpg, all the better. The guys who are interested in more power know what they can do.
I have a 500 hp LS1 with a cam yet my car's fuel economy is better than most stock LS1's. I've tuned it for street performance, not for fuel economy. Whether my engine will meet local emissions regulations is another matter entirely.

I have no idea - I'm assuming that the authors of the article know what they are talking about... but I tend to agree with you that it sounds like there's other parameters at play - I'd like to have a looksee at the tune to determine what the actual issue(s) might be, but I would confidently say its something that could be easily addressed. For instance, there are no performance issues with Holden's L98 yet the PCMs are identical to the trucks' albeit with different tunes.

Titan has a nice engine, but the rest of the truck is no better than those it beat. Fords V8 is its weakness, but other than that I'd put it ahead of the Ram and Titan.
2009 F-150 and Dodge Ram will be new, things should get interesting. Both will have 6.X Liter V8s

Did anyone see the screenshots from the making of the Toyota commercial? They had 3 work trucks there at the filming and all 3 were Fords, lol.
