the article says the engine is from the Camry. Celica had the two 1.8L engines. this one's a 2.4L. but the SC brings up a good point, the Camry 2.4L SC should have no problem beating out the 2.0L SC Ecotec. that's why they need to bump it up to 2.4L. the NA Ecotec does seem to have a slight edge on the competition though. 170hp/tq is definitely nice.

look at what we have come to talking about...naturally aspirated ecotec.

Just in case everyone here hasn't figured it out yet...
...Scion appears to be taking over the least popular market segments in Toyota's model range. The xA and xB are picking up the slack because the Echo failed to reach the youth market. Similarly, the tC is the effective replacement for the Celica.
Strangely, the tC represents a return to the traditional roots of the Celica (based on a platform sized in between the Corolla and the Camry with the same engine as the base Camry) despite the fact that the Celica nameplate is going away.
Will the Scion marketing push work better than the last round of "youth based models?" Last time around, Toyota was scared by the success of VW in marketing to relatively youthful buyers. When you consider that VW is currently losing money on every car they sell in America, I'm starting to wonder what Toyota has to be worried about.

it seems like when ever anyone tries to push something on the youth market, the only people that buy it are the older ones trying to fell young.

I think that most of the buyers of these cars are the Parents, and that the demagraphics are thrown off, much like the fbodies. Yes, the people whos name is on the ownership papers might be in there 40's, but the 17 year old kid is driving it.
i work at a toyota dealership and we have had an xa and xb demo for a while but we arent selling them yet. the small one looks like a mini matrix while the big one is ugly but kinda cool. you can buy them from the factory with bazooka tubes and neons and all that other crap. we recently put 18s on the cracker box and took it to a car show. as it was going by everybody was asking what it was...is that a honda? to get right to my point it is made for kids. i have seen 2 of them on the road. both were older gray haired men. like i said all along at work...kids wont by them, people in midlife crisis will.

Happens everytime. Personally, I cant stand the new Scions and I fall around their demographic for the vehicle (22). One thing is for sure, anytime an automaker tries to tell young people what they want, it will fail majority of the time.

Actually I think Cadillac now attracts more youth than Scion.

The Cien and Sixteen concepts also added to Cadillacs hip factor.
I'm currently saving for a down on an xB
I plan to use it as a winter car (The 'Bird is finally being retired for summer/dry day day use only).
I think the xB looks unique and hip
I've already priced out some nice 18" wheels and rubber for one
Definitely not a performance car, but stylish in it's own way IMO. Oh and I'm not interested in the xB because I am in a midlife crisis (I bought the 'Bird for that
) I just think the xB is a cool looking, unique, car at a reasonable price
