New RWD Toyota/Subaru sport coupe

I didn't see this posted elsewhere on this site.

It looks very interesting. I hope there'll be a Pontiac to go up against it.

I hope Subaru isn't in charge of the styling.

No, wait, I hope Toyota isn't in charge of the styling either . . .

Strange news unless the Subaru does get AWD and the Toyota sticks with RWD.

This is like the third or fourth post about this car/deal...I'm too lazy to search, but I posted the first one.

It's the new AE86/ RWD Corolla. Who knows what they'll end up calling it, though. I hope its a Scion, maybe the next tC.

I'd rather have Toyota do the styling, but that's not saying much

So it's either a boring-looking car that sounds like a lawnmower, or a hideous car that sounds like . . . well, not much of anything?

I found this comment interesting...

"Subaru hasn't offered a performance coupe since the slightly odd SVX..."

Yeah, I agree. Anyone seen how slow the turbo units are like those in the WRX-class cars?!?! Booooring.

Back to reality... I have no interest whatsoever in anything that has "Toyota" and "performance" blended together. IMO, they make transportation appliances, and their ability to do that well is waining.
Good for GM to get business, but I liken it to swimming with the sharks.

.
Simple. The WRX is not a coupe. It's been a sedan and a wagon/hatch.

That's exactly the point of this coupe. To be something interesting and fun. More in Japan than here, the last RWD Corolla is now highly coveted. Much in the same way that GM, Ford, and Chrysler are trying to get sales by introducing new models with heritage cues, so is Toyota.

Who can tell at this point how well this will work, but I find the project very interesting. A RWD 290hp coupe (with STI engine) weighing around 3000 pounds (total guess) is what some people have been asking for around here.

WRXs have 4 doors and are not coupes

Yes... I even thought about that before I posted but then decided to do it anyways.

But seriously... outside of lawyers and gearheads like us, WHO-THE-FLOCK is going to know the difference or care? If I were and WRX owner, I'd have my feathers ruffled over that comment. I've raced WRX cars and they are wicked-fast - especially on shorter tracks.

I think you goobers know what I mean.

Actually, my neighbor has one of the Foresters that is turbo-equipped, and it is a pretty strong runner too for the wagon platform. Did Suby put turbos on any of their other models too?

You can get turbos in everything except the Tribeca, pretty much. They even put a few in the Baja when that was still around.

They had 2 door Imprezas from 1995 until the end of the generation in 2000, which was later than the SVX which died in 1997.

so toyota wants the worse part of the subaru drivetrain to use in a sports car?

the boxer sounds like garbage and get bad gas mileage...good work "ferras"

theyd be better off using subaru awd and dropping a toyota engine in it.

either way, the only way to make a subaru any uglier looking is to let toyota get ahold of it, i cant wait to see this thing

I know this isn't an opinion shared by many, but I actually like the sound of subaru's boxer engine.

I don't know if I actually ENJOY the sound, but it's definitely distinct, and I appreciate that.

A shocking number of people - including several here - will discount the performance potential of any car that has more than two doors. You could, say, park an Eclipse GT next to a Lancer Evo X, and they'd pick the two-door over the four-door as the sportier of the two
