New Fuel-Economy Rules To Spare BMW, Daimler .
#16
Thats BS! Either everyone has to play ball, or you give a 400,000 vehicle exemption to EVERYBODY, foreign or domestic. You get 400,000 that don't count, and everything else gets 35mpg average.
Total BS!!

That's weak. How about a sliding scale where more expensive cars have less and less stringent regulations? As price rises, volume (and therefore environmental impact) falls anyway.
Where it is complete bunk is where BMW can sell a 3-series or MB can sell its C-class without the same (expensive) standards that are applied to a Cadillac CTS.

Government should stay out of fuel economy regulation.
Of course, they should also stay out of, like, 95% of the crap they're playing in.
Barring that, though, there should be a level playing field. This is frigging ridiculous.

Exactly! The fact that certain companies can't meet the standards, yet still make plenty of money selling cars in the U.S. just proves how silly these regulations are. Why won't the government allow real market forces dictate fuel economy of vehicles?

That said, this exemption is still BS.

And since some companies get all their cars counted.. then the ones that make more than that should be able to pick WHAT vehicles are counted.
So... who do we have to flood with emails to make sure this does NOT happen.
