even though i'm a CS guy, and i think this is a good idea (as far as ideas go), I'd still prefer to have real guages to look at. a digital display of the kind you suggest is another layer upon reality and adds unnecesary complexity. if i want to stare at a screen imitating real guages, i'll play a video game. in my car, i want to have actual reality.
