Ok but, they either need to fix the shape or get stronger carnival mirrors.

I'd bet Monte Carlo for a few reasons 1) Putting Bel Air on anything other than a halo car would **** enthusiasts off even more. 2) The obvious misaligning Impala/Bel Air relationship. & 3) The name Monte Carlo has acquired equity once again, and would be more compatible with NASCAR than Bel Air. etc.

2. The Bel Air's styling hardly got rave reviews. Would it look different?
I'd say more refined, and not as controversial. I mean afterall a lot of this cars target is a conservative group, and usually enthusiasts of some sort.

3. If it were built off of passenger car architecture (vs truck as was the concept), wouldn't it have different proportions...ie not so tall?
I would hope so, and I'd imagine so.........

4. And if it used a passenger car architecture, wouldn't it have passenger car drivetrains vs the truck I5?
I dunno, the Monte Carlo connection sorta brings to light a reason for them to want to gauge reaction to the I5, because, afterall the Monte doesn't sport a V8 either. Then again, it could've just been convenient to debut the I5 in the Bel Air, but that doesn't make much sense, given the official press release on the 3500 not coming out until a couple months ago. I'd say the I5 is at least feasible, and could make some killer power with a few mods.

First guy that can answer those questions...I'll buy a beer.
Okay, where's my beer? Oh and BTW I'm only 20, so you might want to mail it to me or something.

Seriously though the Monte and Bel Air DO seem to have a lot in common, and if the Camaro came back minus a convertible, that'd be all the more connection between the two.

Great idea!!!! An upright, cruiser convertible and coupe that can compete with a Stratus, but still be as prestigious and nice as a Thunderbird, all the while producing a fire breathing, lower volume, rakish Camaro.

I find this quote to be kind of interesting, and a tell-tale sign of the general reaction of a lot of people to any name plate that is brought back from the dead and not made into some kind of supercar of some sorts...

BelAir was basically the "Cavalier" of it's time... the entry level car of Chevy and the rest of the world... now BelAir would be viewed as a joke if not placed on a 'halo' car?!

Sometimes people get upside down views on things.

It's interesting to see how Chevy evolved (or de-evolved) the Bel Air name. In '57 it represented the top Chevy. In '58 it was brought down a notch as Impala became the top model.

Soon only the Biscayne was below the Bel Air.

I seem to remember some extremely plain jane strippo early to mid '70s Bel Airs....somehow brown ones stick out in my memory.

Well, it will be interesting to see what if anything Chevy does with the Bel Air......

It's not necessarily the car. But more, the image it has acquired. And most of the people who associate that image with top-of-the-line, are die hard enthusiasts. It's practically part of our culture....

The Corvette, was originally nothing more than what the Solstice would be today, if produced...... But wouldn't the backlash be heard in galaxies near and far if Chevrolet were to bolt a 6 cylinder in this legendary cars engine bay again?

Or even more radical..... The curved dash Oldsmobile was basic transportation at its introduction, but now has become one of the most collected and desirable Oldsmobiles of all time.
