New Chevy Coupe = F5?
New Chevy Coupe = F5?
I know some of the Purists will hate me for posting this, but what do you think about the F5? I personally think it is a pretty cool name and commands attention. What is the most powerful category of a certain storm? The C name could always come back with the situation runs its course...

It’s not a bad idea. Btu I think as Camaro enthusiast we need to stand firm and show GM we want the Camaro name back. We need to show that the name itself is important to us.
F5 also makes me think of BMW to much too; M5 M3 so on.

However at the same time I’m commenting on a situation I don’t fully understand.
Also mentioned in another thread was the idea there may be a power struggle within GM over this. This may be why RP is trying to get the Camaro community to show its love for the car and to bring it back. I know this entire name situation is all about trying not to **** off the CAW.
I’d rather GM be sure that we want the name back then just assume they do.
But I’ll say again, I’m not one of the people in the know, I get all my info on this situation from lurking here everyday. I also don’t read every thread.
So yeah I'm not 100% sure they know this and I dont want to take the chance that they might not.
See where im coming from?

"Camaro" works for me. "Camaro Z/28" really works for me.
Do you know which name I prefer over "F5" though.......BOSS Mustang.
Like Stars has been saying, I too will not buy another Chevy coupe if it is not named Camaro. One of the things that makes me proud to own a Camaro is that is has such a great history. I think we all know the only other place that we can get an affordable muscle car with some history behind it. Please GM...don't make me buy a Ford

I prefer the Camaro name, but if there is a name change, I want that name to reflect the Camaro some how.

There are no acceptable substitutes....it's Camaro or nothing for me.
"CAMARO.......THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE"

This is kinda interesting.
AFAIK, I was the first one to start calling a fifth generation F-Body "F5". This was back in 1998 or so.
I am not saying I should take any real credit for it, but it is cool that other people's thoughts are the same.
I think it's a very cool name, but if it was used I would hope the car would share little in appearance with past Camaros. If it has Camaro styling cues, I think it should be called a Camaro. If it can't be called a Camaro, then don't make it look like one. Just my opinion.
Should the worst happen, and they for some reason cannot get Camaro on the car from the start, here are some thoughts:
1. If you call it ANything other than Camaro, i.e. Chevelle, you're only going to hack off a different set of enthusiasts if you changed it to Camaro once the name issues are resolved. This severly limits the chances IMO that if the car was debuted with another name that we'd ever see it changed to Camaro.
2. If the Camaro name cannot be used right away, you CANNOT call it anything that is nostalgic like Chevelle or #1 will happen. Only choice is to call it F5 or even Z28. "Chevrolet Z28" Sort of like Cadillac CTS, we'd all know what it is. Now that creates some problems with V6 models running around...maybe you have the Chevrolet RS and Chevrolet Z28 for a couple of years before Camaro can be slapped on in front of those two designations. At least it pays hommage to the faithful, and confirms GM's intent to bring back the Camaro name.
3. Sumarizing, I think if it comes back with a name other than Camaro we are screwed. Despite the posts from GuionM last year that said the Chevelle rumors were merely that, I think the internal issues are probably boiling down to Camaro loyalists vs. the GTO set who would rather bring back Chevelle to complement the new Pontiac offering. Even if you pick a new name, like Cobalt or something, I don't think you can come back and change it to Camaro later on.
Now, maybe they should call it the Panther II?
