It seems it happend when toyota and Nissan started coming out with trucks that looked like mini semi cabs. Then all the guys were like heheeh look at your truck MINES BIGGER (pounds chest)

cause those are the guys that use their sissy truck as a oversized car. Prob not even a lick of paint nicked in the bed.

I think it's because people buy on looks more than function... even in the truck market.

IMO, the higher rear end looks much better, but it has functional drawbacks.

Remember when you could get trucks for really cheap? The were built to do what a truck does and thats all you had to pay for.
And at the same time, this is the only place GM makes any money. Does GM really want to drive-down the price of trucks in order to be more "manly" -- of course not. So what's the point of these ads? The only message I got is that Chevy has less features.

Obviously the pickup market is retrenching around commercial buyers, but Ford/Dodge be grinning that Chevy is spending money to advertise their features. There's probably more than a few half-drunk football fans thinking "Man-step, cool I need one of those!".

I cant speak for all of them but I know the commerical with the Dodge in it was more of a "what would you rather have? Heated steering wheel or xxxxx?" Cant remember what it was but it was something mechanical. Man I wish I could find the commercials on youtube or something.

But yeah you have a point. IMO, save all those features for its SUV line...which is also still making money. Used Tahoe's in Alaska are still selling for high 20's.

While, I am not sure about the half drunk football fans, I think this does bring up the point that I didn't even know Dodge offered a heated steering wheel till these commercials came out.
