New CHEVELLE?

Ok i finally had to sell my 81 Malibu as it was 25yrs old and simply worn out and it pained me to do so as it was the last of the 2dr models and of the full frame etc.And don,t tell me to look at stupid MAXX or whatever they call it and don,t stick SS ON IT EITHER! I just couldn,t wait any longer for chevy to do a new CHEVELLE and ended buying a 99GTPbut i would be interested in a new CHEVELLE,and no the GTO wasn,t even available here, so are they thinking of bringing it back?

My condolences on your loss. The malibu and malibu maxx as you have seen it recently will no longer be produced after this year. The new concept was shown at the autoshows and is vast improvement and was pretty much a pre-production vehicle. However, the size and the front wheel drive will be reflective of the current impala, which is probably not what you are looking for. It is very much a fighter of the accord and camry and will hopefully do well in that market. Around 2010, a year after the camaro comes out, the impala will become a zeta platform rear wheel drive vehicle, probably larger than what the impala is now.

Unfortunately, there is no realistic discussion of bringing back the chevelle currently that I know of. If you want to keep up on a summary of all automotive happenings with concepts and such I would recommend checking out www.leftlanenews.com every now and then.

If you were looking at a 99 GTP, then you might be interested in the new G8, which will begin production in '08 in Australia and be imported to North America. It is a rebadge of the Holden Commodore, RWD, V8 and an amazing vehicle in it's own right. It is 10 years newer than the platform that was GTO/Monaro. Everything I have heard so far says the capacity and tooling at the plants in canada will be able to handle the camaro and G8, hopefully late '08 but conservatively '09. I would hope that if the G8 is being manufactured in Canada in '09, it would be available there.

I've seen some concepts float around based off the Australian stuff, but it doesn't look like anything definite. If you bought a GTP, there is plenty of things you can do to that in the mean time.

how much did you sell your 81 for, if you don't mind me asking?

I wouldn't mind finding one for a decent price around here

In short, no.
Maxx SS has more HP then any 81 Malibu from the factory, IIRC.

to expand on it, there would be no need for a large coupe along side a Camaro under the Chevy badge. And it wouldnt come with a "big block" or a 4spd manual, 12 bolt rear or anything else that would remind you of a Chevelle. 2 choices if you want a modern muscle coupe.
1- GTO
2- GTO's that were converted by some SoCal company into Chevelles that go for 100k.

GTO's are not available in canada.

best bet is to look at the 06+ monte carlo if you want a big coupe. SS's even come with a V8.

true but you could esasily goto the states to get one. With the poor intrest in the GTO they are easy to find and cheap, and with the current exchange rate they are really cheap for canadians.

Living in the US and driving into and out of Canada with a GTO is a world different than having a Canadian drivers liscense, address, and citizenship, coming into the US, buying a GTO, then expecting to drive back home in Canada through their customs with a US registered and liscensed GTO.

Oh, they are still certainly THINKING of bringing a Chevelle/Monte Carlo-like vehicle back, but "THINKING" doesn't get cars made or even get them into the pipeline.

A "big" (in quotations because it's interior would be larger than Camaro, but it's size probally wouldn't be any larger than the current GTO) Chevy coupe was a part of the original Zeta coupe program. But at the moment, it seems only Holden & Buick-Pontiac will get them when it's approved.

A large coupe is relatively cheap and easy to do on the Zeta, and despite what the naysaying "we-already-have-Camaro-so-any-other-V8-RWD-coupe-at-GM-will-destroy-the-universe" gang says, there's been a very good case made for a upmarket, roomy coupe that would touch on a different buyer profile than Camaro. Supposedly at around 40-50,000 annually.

GM has a couple of newer "Zeta 2" Chevy proposals, though they may be nothing more than computer programs (which can be converted to production models relatively quickly if based on an existing architecture).

GM hardly ever is the 1st to market with anything, and usually waits for someone else to jump into the pool first and follows a couple of years later. I suspect the large, roomy Dodge Challenger is that car for GM. We'll see a so-called big coupe from GM (Cadillac is about to greenlight one and Holden...and by asscociation, Pontiac... is due for a final decision by the end of the year).

Though there's nothing nearly solid on Chevrolet, there will very likely be something like you asked for under the tree within the next few years.

Ditto on that one...... reason.. there's no retofit/replacement package available to upgrade the 2.5mph bumpers to 5mph as required in Canada so the car is illegal for use on Canadian roads and thereby Canadian ownership of these cars - otherwise I'd be happily drivin' one too.
