Is the new Camaro too LATE????

With the price of gas going up and GM being so late to the 2+2 craze, will there be a market in (2007) if we are so lucky to have one so soon??? What do you guys think.

Gas prices isn't going to effect the sales of sports cars, unless we start looking at $4-5 per gallon. Even then, I doubt it since a LS2 in a nearly 3800 pound GTO gets 29 mpg!

About the same as a typical V6 powered Toyota family sedan.

Re: Is the new Camaro too LATE????

GM's small block V-8's get excellent gas mileage as compared to the power they make. My sister's Honda CRV gets about 35 mpg with about 140-170 hp. I average between 22 and 25 mpg with twice that power. I'll gladly take the trade-off for a few extra dollars at the pump. If the Camaro is based on a platform where it is not the only style--ie sedan and coupe, etc. I think it will do fine. Better late than never.

No. There will still be a place for it, as long as they make it bad a$s. If it gets the MPG of the LS1 gas wont be much of an issue.

All I can say is that if they don't blow it, I'll buy at least one. And I can personally vouch for at least a couple of dozen more guys.....regardless of the price of gas.

Re: Is the new Camaro too LATE????

Yes very good point. Didn't even look at it like that. My C5 gets 23MPG in the city and im not nice to it. Boy i can hardly wait to get some info on the Camaro. What do you guys think. Will it be wise to wait one year befor buying one? I would be scared to buy one the first year it comes out, i mean look at the GTO, if i would have had the first model year then the came out with the much more bad a$$ one just a year later i would be pissed. Do you guys think the camaro will be the same deal??

Seeing that the GTO was rushed into production based on an existing Monaro model and a new Camaro hasn't even been announced yet; I honestly can't see how you can make that comparison.

I agree with the premise of your post, but your numbers are a bit off on the GTO gas mileage:

Manual: 17 mpg / 25 mpg
Automatic: : 16 mpg / 21 mpg

A Camaro with the 5.3L DoD V8 and 6 speed transmission would probably get 30mpg. That is right there with 4 cyl. cars like the Acura RSX, SRT-4 and Cobalt SS. It is better than the 4 cyl. WRX, STi, Evo.

Don't forget the Camaro would also get better milage than every truck and SUV on the market.

Just looked it up on the EPA site, & you're right.

Last year's LS1 manual GTO got the 29 mpg highway.

The LS2 dropped 5 mpg for those 50 horses. I'm not entirely convinced it was worth it, but then again, the 5.3 is replacing the LS1 in economy and performance numbers, so I guess it's a wash.

Re: Is the new Camaro too LATE????

Anyone know what contributed to loosing 5mpg highway from 04 to 05 outside of the obvious LS1 vs LS2? Anything specific? 5mpg is a substantial amount.
