New BMW 5 Series

I'm sure it will carry on the tradition that BMW has built quite well, but man, it certainly is not the clean, smooth looker that the current car is. Looks like something Toyota would build.

You know... I like it, but much like the GTO, if I give it a quick look (from the front only) I first think "97-03 Grand Prix"...

It doesn't look too spiffy to me. But I would really need to see the front end to make a final call.

Looks a lot like the 7 Series. I never hear the people that bitched about the GTO looking "Too Pontiac" complain about how all BMWs look the same.

Another Chris Bangle butcher job, complete with Hyundai taillights. It's such a step backwards from the current 5-series. At some point their reputation will cease to make up for their questionable design decisions.

Yes, Bangle's hard at work, destroying what little is left of BMW styling.

I thought BMW fired Bangle last year. I'm sure the new five will live up to its performance and build quality expectations but that styling doesn't do it for me.

With the exception of the rump of the 7-series, I think Chris Bangle hasn't done that bad a job at BMW. I actually liked the CS-1 concept, and the Z4 is a great visual improvement on its Z3 predecesor. I know most people hate that strange front fender "swoosh" on the Z4, but I understand what Bangle was trying to do.

The thing that irritates me is that I-Drive hasn't been put to rest for once and all. This system is annoying and irritatingly complex. (In only 8 carefully coreographed moves, you too change the radio station in you BMW - or you could buy a Cadillac and turn a **** once!) This is technology run amok, and I dread the day when it moves down to the 3-series. I feel the same way about all of the navigation systems in luxury cars. GM had a great idea with Northstar - a system for old people and nitwits. Even Toyota is buying it. I wish BMW would just keep things simple.

yuk. its hideous from the rear, hopefully the front looks good. whats BMW thinking lately? i love Bimmers, they're great cars, but the 7 series design is questionable, if not failing, and now this??? BMW what gives???

of course a company like BMW can afford to do this. their reputation is like gold.

Anyone notice that two new models have these slanted/angled rear taillights (if you look at them from a side)?

THe first one I saw was upcoming Maxima. Now in this picture it's BMW. I'm wondering where they got their design cues, or who ripped who, but I think both are ugly (taillights, that is).

Is that the same guy who did the Z4? Both the Z4 and this 5-series pic are just dismal. I can't believe those are Beamers. Maybe there's some new "theme" going on, but it sure ain't a BMW theme..

and for crying out loud, can someone build a car that does NOT have a mandatory slope making the rear end a foot higher?? haven't seen anything noteworthy along those lines since at least the mid 90s

gt

Disgusting. The rear lights look like the toyota camry (I think it's that model). I hate it when I see new cars getting trimmed down in the front and rear, it's just so cheap.......

They aren't Beamers. They're Bimmers

BMW Car = Bimmer
BMW Motorcycle = Beamer
