Maybe it would be like a V12 Camaro? That would be cool btw

I suppose they've forgotten that the first M3 was a four cylinder then...

Maybe they just don't like V engines.

1 thing that looks cool is the shinny factory headers.

Some people just don't like change. The M5 had a V8, no one has a problem with that. It's evolutionary, not revolutionary.

People have begged for more, now they have it, they'll learn to appreciate it.

Man, I'm choking on all the hyperbole in the article, nice and complex with the sort of power you get from nice and complex, but at the end of the day 505hp is still better than 420 hp.

Definitely a finely engineered motor. It doesn't look like much fun to work on though.

Hey, I got a set of MT slicks in my backyard wanna race?
The engine doesn't mean that much.
It is the car that matters.

BTW, you guys talking about tq. I wouldn't doubt it if BMW wants this thing to not make very much tq. If it made as much as some of these American cars they'd have to up the weight (strength) of the entire drivetrain.

Everyone is comparing this cars power output, and weight to the LS7, but what about its smoothness and noise levels? I would be willing to bet this motor is pretty smooth, and relatively quiet.

A luxury brand buyer is going to pay a lot of attention to a vehicle's comfort dynamics.

Good point, but isn't the LS2 in at least one "mid luxury vehicle" like the CTS-V, maybe others? Actually, the M3 is not a true luxury vehicle anyway is it?

I'd still like to know the weight and size comparisons of the LS2, LS7 and this one from BMW. I'd be willing to bet that BMW won't have that engine exhaust note as quiet as a mouse like a "luxury car" anyway

The point I was making for with the tq thing, was that the engine is very efficient for its size. Now, I would like more tq, but you can make most of that up in gearing, which I'm sure it has quite a bit.

Anyone know what the car is suppose to weight?

R&T cover story states 3,500 lb est. curb weight. They also published a power output graph that shows 295 ft lb peak torque from 3,200 rpm to almost 7,000 rpm.

Let me say this though, I would love to have that engine in any of my vehicles, except the Camaro.

It ought to be pretty fun to drive, and for a naturally aspirated 4.0L engine, 295 ft lbs of torque is a good deal, especially if it is carried 3,800 rpms.

Very nice engine. All the more reason for me to buy a supercharger.

Wonder what powershifting at 8300 rpm while pulling 3600+ lbs down the track would be like.

Got input shaft?

Incredible technology though.
